That reminds me of the first time I picked up Ben from his nursery in the Elan.
First he didn't see my daily driver at all, and said perhaps someone had taken it! He didn't realise he was standing next to the "new" car that we were going home in.
Then he asked if I was going to put the roof on, to which I replied "no - it's not raining" (a line which I believe should be every Elan owner's default setting)!
Finally he asked nervously if it would be noisy. I think I had frightened him with the din during the recommissioning work, so had to explain that it would be fine.
The exit from the nursery car park was just a couple of hundred feet inside a 40mph zone which changed up to national speed-limit, so naturally given the choice that was the direction in which we headed, with a bit of a sporty take-off for good measure.
He was pressed into his seat by the acceleration, mouth agape and wide-eyed. Within seconds the surprise turned to glee and he threw his arms up above his head shouting "I LOVE IT!"
It still brings a tear of pride to my eye even now - that's what you call an education!
Talking of education, to teach Ben to count, I started with stairs when carrying him which got him up to 13, then fingers and toes got him up to 20, and after that I started using speed-limit signs, which kept him interested in the journey and surroundings. I did however make one alteration - I called the national speed limit one the "let's rock sign".
Even now that he's 5, as we pass the black & white sign and I hear "let's rock daddy!" it never gets old and brings a big grin to both of our faces at the same time.
