Hi-I just made an account as I am looking at purchasing a car. I noticed I cant PM anyone yet as not made enough posts , but would appreciate any heads up for cars within 100 miles of Blairgowrie/Edinburgh/St Monans that are in reasonable shape (Dont want a project). I noticed one for sale on LEC from Greenock. Also good to chat to owners/see a few members cars.
I started in the early 1980's with the early Elans and have restored a few but fancy trying a M100 and as an alternative to a boxster.

One concern I had was insuring a car with all the common modifications (Everest map/upgraded brakes/exhaust etc).
Regards,
Graham

Hi Graham,

You should now be able to send PMs, it is a feature which can't be unlocked until you first post is approved (to try to slow down the spammers).

I insure with Footman James, and they are happy with my modifications (all listed, including Everest chip) - same price as without them - so no need to try and 'hide' them from that company. I assume that others are equally receptive to "sensible" mods.
Dave

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?

Dave-thanks for insurance comments, and yes PM working now.
I bought a local (Scotland) car yesterday (Well deposit) so my journey begins.

FWIW, I was with Adrian Flux for some years. My S2 is basically standard, but has some period modifications and has undergone a rolling restoration, so some items (e.g. dampers) are non-original as OEM are no longer available. Flux became unhappy with that, so I switched to Footman James. No issues with mods, easy agreed value up to (IIRC) £15,000, and the premium was cheaper than Flux. Plus I effectively get Lotus Club membership for free, because of the Club discount.

Hope that helps.

By the way, I am deeply envious of you having an Elan in beautiful Perthshire.

Thanks Jonathan and Jamie.
I live at the foot of the glenshee road so yes very lucky with location, though the amount of motorbikes ( I also have bikes but mainly restoration projects) on a weekend a bit mental.
I hope to conclude stuff next week and pick car up so should be sorted very soon for a meet up/run.

My neighbour has three Velocettes and an old BMW, so I understand . . .

Now that I am retired and (very sadly) without my dog, I might even be prevailed upon to make a trip back to my homeland if you all meet up (if, that is, the Empress of Edinburgh will actually allow me across the border)
