Greetings from new member in New York

Hello all - Chris here. I've had an S4 Elan ('70) for about 15 years and just bought a '91 off BAT (Bring a Trailer) in California a week ago.
Just sorting it out now and making lists.
Looks like another fabulous community here, tons of esoteric knowledge and helpful enthusiasts.
Looking forward to jumping in the deep end!

Congratulations on your Elan, assuming that you bought Barry’s car that’ll be quite a nice example for you. I’m in Pennsylvania about 100 miles west of Manhattan with an imported ‘92 I’ve been doing a (slow) restoration on. I’m ending up with quite a few spare parts if you may be in need and don’t want to ship something across the pond.

Welcome! You got a good deal on that car. Funnily, I bought my M100 out of Buffalo and brought it to Los Angeles. These cars are well traveled but sometimes not under their own power!

Ahhh, the American Contingent emerges.... Nice!
I've read some of you on BAT over the years - funny to finally cross paths.
Yes, we've seen cars criss-cross the country over and over again. I suspect the only folks making money on this hobby are the shippers.
I took the car out last night for a (somewhat illegal) joyride to stretch its legs and get a feel for whats in there.
Really exceptional car - starting to understand what you guys are on about. Tons of character and handling deftness.
Lots to learn, lots to learn....

Stateside the M100 community is verrrrrry small (~550 cars came to the US, maybe there’s a couple other nutjobs like me who have brought more into the country). They If you’re on Facebook I am an administrator of one of the M100 owners & fan pages (not the official LEC one, and don’t want to get in trouble for promoing another one here) and can let you in to the group and contact you there - I’m most easy to get ahold of there. Outside of that if you send me a PM I’ll find a way to get in contact with you. Matt & Matt (the other two commenting here) are great very knowledgeable guys too - the three of us have built up a decent number of places to get parts stateside as well.

Another member from NY! Shipped my M100 from the Netherlands. It was easier than I thought, save for a bit of explaining at the NY DMV. VIN wasn't in the database. But the shippers were great and provided the requisite paperwork.

Car had a full body off resto. Nice with with teh brake kit.

A few challenges:
- Heat doesn't blow hot, or even warm. Looking to install new heater valve and temperature gauge. And final nit, the steering is a bit jumpy, with kind of a mind of it's own. Drives straight, yes. A slight turn in either direction, triggers an abrupt turn, jerking the car a few degrees about a 1/2 second later.
I will address all of this in the coming month or two. Underlying car is fantastic. I love it.
