A very Good Friday - just got my Elan!

Postby Kathryn » Sat 19.04.2014, 01:08

Hello!
Picked up my Elan today. I've wanted one as long as I can remember, and when I saw a picture of a purple one in my brother's Lotus book I just had to have one! -Its only taken about 15 years!
I decided last summer to look into getting an Elan and found this site then. I've found it very helpful!
I was surprised how easy I found the car to drive and enjoyed the trip home. Only problem I had was about 10 minutes into the journey when I stopped for petrol and pulled the handbrake on too hard and couldn't release it again! Luckily my dad was close at hand to help!
I had the roof down all the way -although I was a bit chilly by the time I got home it was great fun! I didn't mind getting stuck in traffic either -it was near Dunsfold, wow so many awesome cars around! I saw another Elan, but it was on the way before I'd collected mine.
I still can't quite believe I've done it - I've actually got my Elan!! :D

Congratulations! The first drive home in a new to you Elan can be fantastic. Mine was 1,000 miles and is still one of my most memorable road trips - mostly because the Elan's performance exceeded my expectations. :smt023

Congratulations on your purchase and welcome to LEC.
Hope you continue to enjoy your Elan and have many years of fun with it!

PS put the heater on and get a wind deflector from Classic Additions: you won't be chilly again!

Welcome Kathryn - let's see it then! :D
A wind blocker like FredJohn recommends is a very welcome addition - they make a massive difference.
Any other plans for it?

Glad you're enjoying it. Nice colour too.
Why don't you join us in Brooklands on Sunday? Only parking in Mercedes World is limited to the list. Attendance is not & there is plenty of parking available in Brooklands itself.

Thanks for all your friendly welcomes!
I did put the heater on and it made a big difference, a wind deflector is on my shopping list!
Unfortunately I have a (minor, I hope) problem already! I can't shut the passenger door, the latch is stuck. I think the locks are working ok, and you can see someones had a problem with it in the past by the marks around it. My dad has tried to lever it and loosen the screws but it won't budge so unfortunately I wont be driving it this weekend. :( I'll post it in the problems section.
Oh dear! But otherwise I'm loving it! Pictures to follow!

Thanks Rambo! That is indeed her! I tried to post a pic, but it was too big, I know it says somewhere on here how to resize it but I wasn't able to on my mobile!

Welcome, Kathryn. Sweet ride! One of the more rare colours, too. You're in good company, too, as I believe one of LEC's swalwart, long-time members, a Mr. Specky, also resides in Swindon, along with one of the very first Elans ever assembled. May you enjoy your Elan for many years to come!

She's actually an N reg, she was put on this plate in 2005 about 3 owners ago. I think I'll change it back, although it is growing on me.

Oh yes: can now see S2 wheels and S2 badge on photos so can't be a 1992 car! :bonk:
