Postby Axel-F » Thu 26.11.2009, 12:01

Hello,

Proud an happy french new owner of a 1992 M100 SE, in British Racing Green,
I was dreaming of this car for 20 years, and looking for it for 2 years ...

I love this car !! :-D

Just one strange think, it is a SE, for sure, but it as a Cat exhaust ...
I thought Cat exhaust were only delivered with the S2,

I read somewhere on the forum that another member (from Italy) as a M100 Catalytic SE,
do you think it is possible that Lotus did deliver Cat SE in 1992 in Italy (as mine come from Italy too) ???
or has it been added later ? (but why ?? and why only in Italy ??)

I would be great if somebody has information about that Cat on a SE ....
Thanks !!

Hi...and welcome.

I suspect it is a catalyst SE because at the time it was built, the country it was intended for, had stricter emmision rules than the UK.

The UK was a bit late to introduce 'cats' compared to some others.

Perhaps someone can confirm?

Remember that the majority of us on here are in the UK or North America so are more familiar with Elans built for those 2 markets.

We have the same coloured car and by the looks of things we also have the same problems with our children.

My children are not allowed within a mile of it and have been warned i will sell them on EBay if they go near it!!

Well... it make sens, there was a cat available for the federal, probably it was required by Italian laws (was not in France), so they put it onto the SE for Italy...

Anyway a Cat is not a problem, just wondering ...
... if it really worth it to take it off ? 10 bhp more ok, but does it really give more driving pleasure ??
... how to take it off ? replace it with an inox exhaust and just have the ECU modified or changed ?

I think I will go for a brake upgrade before anyway ! :-D

So it seem that in '92 lotus delivered Catalytic SE to germany also, I seen several on the web also ...

Did you or somebody else had driven "non Cat SE" and "Cat SE" and can compare ? is it a big difference ?? (on the paper it's 10bhp less...)
