Having my second mid life crisis (first resulted in me buying a triumph stag). Now looking to get a lotus Elan and have found a white S2 for sale in Glasgow from Killermont Garages. Any advice from more knowledgeable owners appreciated

Having owned a Stag and an Elan I can say the Elan is much cheaper to keep on the road, lasts longer and is a car you can rely on to get you where you want to go (which is something the Stag could never do for me). Buy one - but do your homework on LEC and make it a good one.
Where in Scotland are you? We might have somebody near you who can give advice.

Thanks for the post - I am based in Dunfermline. I have had a look at the white S2 and it all seems good. (Having lived with a Stag for 5 years its nice to think that the body won't disappear before me) Any thoughts on the price they are asking £6990.

i was interested in that white Elan but it was so far to go for me to view it, but its a decent price, looks very tidy and its been for sale for ages so i would think the price is worth a good haggle!

i have just bought my first Elan and its the best thing ive ever done... quirks and all

I think that S2 has had a cambelt change in the last year or so. If so, that's good news. It will be even better news if the water pump was replaced at the same time.

Have a good look at the front suspension, especially the lower wishbones. They can rust and are not cheap to replace. The rear wishbones on the S2 are galvanised so you shouldn't find any problems there. Also, check the tyres out. Ideally, they should all be the same make, or at least the same make on each axle. If they're a cheap make then budget to replace them with something better.

I've had a look round it, it seems pretty tidy. I think it's been resprayed.

I have seen the ADD for the white Elan and it looks to be a straight car I suppose the price is about right for what you would expect to pay for a good one
However as the previous post said its been for sale for quite a long time so perhaps there is some room for a bit of haggling

Hi Gordy,
How many miles has the white S2?
I have more or less decided to sell my SE which has just 21k miles
and is pretty much original throughout. it is amuch better colour-Pacific Blue!
It is in Ardfern at present and has a hard top if required.
