Hello I'm new,

My names Steve and I just picked up my first elan on Sunday after umming and ahhing over one for a while. I decided this time round it was time to get one

I've always wanted one since I was a little kid playing lotus challenge 2 on the sega megadrive.

Now I have a lovely bright yellow turbo one

Nice pic but Lotus have never made an Elan in 'Yellow' - Lotus call it "Norfolk Mustard", seems to be just called 'Mustard' in most forums.
I've always thought it's the best colour, looks nice, easy to touch up and particularly good for cross country trips where people need to see you coming.

Whenever I've been looking there's never been a Mustard one that fitted my criteria - always gone for SE with low mileage, FLSH and decent hood that doesn't leak... rules out quite a lot!
I didn't like white or silver and BR Green is dangerous as it's like camouflage for country lanes - I don't begrudge any owner who adds big yellow stripes to make them more conspicuous but wouldn't want one myself.

My first was Calypso Red but in the south of France some panels turned Calypso Pink...asked Pat Thomas at Kelvedon Motors what I could do about it and he said "next time don't buy red, they all fade in extreme sun"..
2nd & 3rd are Pacific Blue but that's a metallic paint so dealing with stone chips can be more tricky than Mustard.

Is the stripe in BRG?

Your colour! - 'deep yellow' not to be confused with 'lemon yellow' Coleman's factory is in Norwich so this is Norfolk Mustard...

Stop being pedantic. Whatever the colour's official name, it's still a shade of yellow.

I hope you're enjoying the car....or will do when it gets a bit warmer. They can be a pain sometimes but in fairness, this is not very often. They are hugely enjoyable when running well.
Soft top Sunday at Goodwood is well worth it, especially on a nice day. They held it in February a couple of years ago. I have no idea why.

I'm pretty sure they did, there was a version of paint that Lotus called "Camel Yellow".
Mind you, I suspect you'd have to have 2 clean Elans next to one another to actually tell the difference!

there were 2 yellows.....
NMY - Norfolk Mustard Yellow
and Camel Yellow (made when Senna/Donnelly/Mansell were driving for the team.....as it was the team colour)

That sponsorship started in 1987 before the M100 was announced. I was down in Cap d'Agde with the family in the Eclat last week in May, first two in June '87 and sat in a bar and watched Senna win the Monaco GP in the active suspension Camel Yellow Lotus 99T by an unbelievable 30 seconds and for the remainder of the holiday we had to push through the crowd around the Eclat to get into it, my wife hated it. Camel withdrew sponsorship in 1990 before M100 production was really underway. They might have used Camel Yellow on Esprits but not a colour used on any production M100's according to Lotus Service Notes Section BH Page 2. Early Norfolk Mustard is an ICI product and later Norfolk Mustard is DuPont product and no word 'yellow' anywhere. Wonder if it's the same Camel Yellow renamed as Norfolk Mustard because Camel had gone... Whatever... still think it's the best colour for an Elan.
