Hello from the Youtube Lotus Elan M100 Restoration Series

Hi,
A few of you have seen the videos on Youtube so I've been asked if I'd say hello on here. I'm Toby and I've been a Lotus owner and hobby restorer for 17 years. I've always found myself thinking at the end of any restoration "That would take a lot less time if I was every going to do it again". But you don't so all your pain and knowledge gets wasted. I'm not trying to undermine the wiki or this forum (both of which are those sort of fantastic resources you get on the internet that restore your faith in humanity). Far from it, the videos are supposed to be complementary to the info on here. It's just a lot of jobs are easier if you've watched someone do it first.

Hope you find the videos useful. They are hugely time consuming to make which is why you don't see much of me on here. By the time I read your posts someone else has answered the query. In the future we'll be tackling the mechanicals, general restoration stuff like paint rectification and dealing with rust and I'll probably finish with a series on service items. Generally we'll be covering what needs doing on this car but if you think there's anything that would benefit from a video explanation that we haven't covered, get in touch and we'll consider shooting one. Or make one yourself. It's quite a laugh. At first. As long as you've got far too much free time on your hands...

Welcome Toby. They are good videos and have quite rightly been well-received.
I guess it all depends on what jobs you need to do yourself, but a "setting the base timing" one, and your experiences of oil changes or reading fault codes might be good.

Oh and if you get chance, put your location in your profile - you could end up with a plethora of wannabe stars, sorry I mean "volunteers" to help you!

The videos are truly excellent. I consider myself a fairly competent Elan-mechanic, but learnt loads just watching your headlight motor video!

Thanks for putting all the effort in; I can imagine they take ages to make! The .stl files for the parts are really good too - keep that resource flowing if you can! The future certainly holds lower availability of Elan parts and additive manufacture will help us all keep them on the road.

I have only seen a couple of videos so far but they are very good and informative. Keep up the good work.

A great information tool and resource tool. I wish the door one was on months ago before I had to pull the doors apart. Reading a tech page or instructions will never be as good as a video. Keep them coming, I have to get to the suspension soon. Would a request list of things we want to see help?

My question is about shocks. You're saying that it's not that useful to go on a new shock kit and stay with OEM. Can you give us more on that?

Thank you for doing these videos,i have watched them all as i have just purchased an elan that needs a bit of work doing to it,all the jobs you have done up to now are jobs that need doing on mine,so these videos are a great visual demonstration of what to expect when i get round to them.
