New member with new project.

I've just found this site even though I've now had 3 elans.

I've just picked up a 1992 se which is going to be a bit of a project.

It's been sat for some time and when I picked it up it was looking very sorry for it's self and running very poorly.

At some point it's had lots of work done. It looks to have had the chassis off as the whole thing is covered with pristine grey powder coat. It's also had a full paint job in it's original silk red. Which I'm sure will clean up well.

Inside it's quite grim and the hood has a few tips. In the common spot where it folds. Which is a shame as it's perfect other than that.

So I've started to look at its running problems.

It was missing under load and I was getting a code for turbo over boost even though it felt like it had no boost.

I checked the basics which led me to look at the timing.
It's miles out I'm surprised it even started.

The strange thing is I can only just get to 16 degrees with it set to max advance adjustment? I'm guessing that the belt is 1 tooth out on one cam? But I'm going to change it anyway.

The other problem is it's all over the road. There's play in the steering looks like a little bit in the os inner joint but from what I can see the rest is in the rack not the u/j.
I've just learnt that you can adjust it so I guess that's my next job.

Anyway I'm sure I'll be back with lots of questions.

It was on eBay a few times but the bidders never picked it up.
I had made the guy an offer a few days before and he wanted rid. The rest is history as they say.

A 350 mile round trip later with the trailer and she is home.

I was so close to driving it back it's a good job I didn't

So this afternoon I had a crack at adjusting the steering rack.
What a PIG!!!!!
Gave up u till I can get the car higher and I have the right kit.

I did however find that EVERY suspension bolt is only just finger tight.

Full spanner check required.

nice looking car, welcome to LEC.

The steering rack adjuster is in a horrible place. Finding loose bolts is a bit scary though, tightening and retorqueing might cure the problem.

Remember to tighten everything with the suspension fully loaded or you will ruin the bushings.

Unfortunately I don't have any way of lifting the car with load on the wheels.

Current plan is to do them all up then take a short trip to mates local garage and re torque them on the 4 post lift.

Sure you do.

Raise the car as high as you need.

CAREFULLY place stands, blocks or anything sturdy under the hubs and CAREFULLY lower the car so the suspension is again loaded but there is now room under it to work.
