Hi All

Purchased my first Elan M100 (S2) last November and have been doing upgrades/cosmetics/repairs getting it ready for the spring.

The next job is to remove the centre console to replace the handbrake and gear gaiters. As the console will be out and showing quite a lot of wear I thought I would give it a spray.

Does anyone know the colour or nearest colour match for the plastic trim?

Hi & welcome to LEC.

I hope you get as much enjoyment out of your car as we all do (mostly!).

I can't tell you the colour needed for your centre console, as the S2 may be slightly different to the SE that I own, due to manufacturing process a few years different.

That said, I used a leather colourant for mine (and the door cards) which I got from The Furniture Clinic as a kit. They do a variety of sizes depending on how much you want/need to colour. As well as the 'standard' colours, they will mix bespoke ones to match a sample that you send them. I decided on standard black as I was doing the seats, centre console and door cards all the same (the seats started out red and are from a Honda S2000) so I used quite a bit (seats needed 3 coats of colour, the rest just one coat).

It has lasted 8 years or so (so far).

I wasn't concerned for a colour match as such, but I'm fairly sure that they will be able to provide an exact match from a sample, or a close match from standard.

I sprayed it using a normal spraygun and compressor, and it was easy to work with. (they do provide an airbrush as part of the kit, but I still have that on the shelf at home).

I can't comment on how well a normal paint spray will adhere to the plastic, but the stuff I got is fine. (I went for the semi-matt finish).

I used this aerosol (recommended somewhere on the forum) to respray the steering column cowl on my S2. I can’t tell the difference between this and original colour. Make sure you clean and degrease the surface thoroughly before spraying.

Thought I would do a follow up on this just in case anyone was interested now or in the future.

Firstly thanks to Saltire for recommending the Auto K Anthracite (233 096) spray paint.

I managed to find a U.K seller that had some in stock and I have to say the colour match for the centre console is excellent. Once the console surface had been prepared and cleaned the spray went on easily making it look like new. Two coats would have been enough but I did three to be sure which used approx three quarters of the 400ml tin.

I purchased new Leather handbrake and Gear stick gaiters from an ebay business seller for just £24.99 delivered and was very pleasantly surprised by how good the quality is considering the price paid. Both the gaiters came with a wire fitting frame at the base, however, due to the unique way the Elan S2 handbrake gaiter is fitted to the console I had to unstitch the wire frame and reattach to the plastic fitting from the old gaiter

Added a few before and after photos, had to crop a couple of the photos due to the forums attachment size limitation.
