Hi all, I'm based in Kent and on the look out for my first M100. Research started last year and I've got my budget sorted so, busy May permitting, I'll be actively seeking. Hopefully I'll have my bottom in one before too long. I am tall so the first things on my to do list will be sun visor and seat base spacers I think...

Welcome Mark
You should definitely consider the S2000 seat conversion route as well, it totally transformed the seating position for me.

Thanks for the heads-up, I saw that one, sadly it's a bit of a trek from where I am in Kent. Logistics, logistics...

Hi Mark, welcome. As you will see I'm in Gravesend. Where are you? There are a number of M100 owners in Kent on here and also you may want to think about joining North Kent Lotus Group (NKLG).
Presumably you have already tried one out? I'm quite willing to meet up with you if you wish to view and sit in one.

Thanks Trevor! I've sat in two, one with a slightly smaller steering wheel that helped with the knee room. I'm down Faversham way and hoping I may see a Lotus or two at the Transport Festival next weekend. I'll have a look for NKLG. Thanks again.

What a shame, I was due to go to the Festival but have had to give up my entry because we are now going to Helsinki that weekend.
Good luck with the search and enjoy Faversham Transport Festival.

Good luck with your search Mark. There aren't that many of them, though several do surface during the Spring/Summer. If you want a choice rather than just what's local, I think you're going to have to work out the logistics...or get very lucky. You probably know that UKSportsCars in Canterbury usually have some advertised, currently 3. They will be the most expensive in the country, but usually well prepared visually so if you want to see what a nice looking one is like you can pop down there. They used to have a very poor reputation for mechanical and after sales, but I've not heard such bad reports in recent years. More just to help your research locally really.

Cheers Mike, think I will need to block out a weekend or two and do this properly! I went up to UKSC last year and that confirmed my appetite for one of these great cars, appreciate your thoughts.

with Mike. I live in Wiltshire, and my S2 came from the Isle of Man. I know of folks that have travelled 300 miles or so to find their ideal car. Not many Elans were made, fewer survive, and the chances of finding one that suits you, within your budget, in a colour you like, that’s for sale close to your front door is therefore pretty small.
Distance needn’t necessarily be a problem. This forum has members in many parts of the country, and folks are often happy to view a car on your behalf and report back

Then you just need to go and collect - oh, and pay for it, of course

...and when I was looking for ours in 2002/3 the best yellow one I could find was one in Jersey ....so I went there, twice! Once to view and once to collect. Quite a long drive home (!) but much enjoyed and that was despite living in Kent at the time within an hour or so of the Chunnel.

UK sports cars have one for sale in Wingham Kent on ebay but it's £28,995 so i think it may be worth looking outside of Kent.

Thanks for your comments and suggestions everyone. I'm going to spend some time, focus and do it properly, including looking further afield!

Mark,
I know you have already commented on Simons' thread re:- Empire Green S2....... but that would be one that I'd want to go and see as it's in Kent, and knowing Simon (and the car), it would be worth a squint
(and it's the very best colour for an Elan, IMHO)
Dave
Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it
...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?

Thanks Dave, I'm looking forward to (hopefully) seeing it when the time comes
