New member in Hawaii

Aloha braddahs… Howzit!

Ok - I’m not originally FROM here - so that’s probably most of the slang I will throw at you!

I’ve been here on Oahu for almost 11 years - and bought my first (ummm, yes - I have TWO) Elan M100 about 5 years ago. The engine was taken apart at 45k miles - but the car is not abused. Working on piecing it back together now.

Bought my SECOND one (both in red, btw) sight unseen while I was traveling on the mainland US to go visit a brother in Georgia. Got a message from a friend about a SECOND car listed on FaceBook - reached out to the seller and ended up buying a second Oahu car from the middle of Texas, somewhere on I-40. It’s been parked 14 years, and motor is frozen - but complete. I’ll pull the drivetrain and rebuild it at leisure (I fortunately have space!)

Are there any others here? I know there a couple of Elise/Exige/Evoras - and at at least 1 Europa… any other Elan M100’s? We DO have a fairly active auto cross group that takes over the stadium parking lot once a month - I’m hoping to get a chance to go run over there. How do the M100’s hold up against the Elise/Exige crowd?

I won’t be keeping both - so I can be talked into letting the second go if someone is really looking. Expensive shipping from Hawaii, I might imagine - but let me know! I BELIEVE both cars are US import cars, so I guess I have 2/559. Best estimate I saw was that about 400 are believed to still be road-worthy.

How do the M100’s hold up against the Elise/Exige crowd?

as long as its raining, GREAT.

on a dry sunny road, you will need the everest chip. and still probably play catch up.
the elise is a lot lighter than the elan, and those Celica engines put out 180hp

The elan is a twisty B Road cruiser. its a car to be driven spirituous-ly on a good day to enjoy live. not a speed demon.
yes, it will completely anihilate any miata on any track. but the Elise is a complete different car designed for the track... and the exige is even more track focused.

I'd imagine you have some nice twisties to practice on over there. And all the beach cruising, it seems like a great car for the area.
Good luck with the autocross as well. If anything, trying to keep up with those younger siblings will improve your own skills
