Good man - I've asked the question of someone who may know Alan's solution.

so the question now is, do i take the driveshafts out from the brg or do i try to source some low milage samples?

DVB quoted £99 each side ex vat and delivery, so im thinking £260ish total, but i didnt get confirmation on the milage.

I'm confused - why would you want to pay Douglas Valley's rip-off prices when your nearest Lotus dealer can get you brand new driveshafts for less? Even if you end up spending £25 in fuel to go and fetch them, for the peace of mind it's still worth it.

i havnt yet found anyone who sells the driveshafts at £94 a side, that price was taken from the 60th sales list in november, if i find someone i'll take it, but the other issue is the jackshaft bearing, which is seperate from the driveshafts and from whats been said are no longer available. I wondered if DVB had a low milage set which would include the jackshaft bearing, but at that price i think i'll take my chances with the BRG set and hold out for the next sale and an alternative jackshaft bearing.

unless ive got the wrong end of the stick.

just heard back from lotus and i can get the driveshafts at the above price  but now i have the question of what to do about the jackstand bearing.

as i`ve already said i`ve got a spare used jackshaft which includes the bearing.

I had a quick look and can`t see any bearing part numbers, ethier it`s under the seal (but i don`t want to damage the seal) or the numbers are on the otherside in which case the jackshaft will need pressing out :? Also notice a bit off play in the bearing but not sure if thats normal :?

thankyou monty, id forgotten about your offer in all the exitment, i am hoping to source a new one as it would be one less thing to worry about, but its good to have a fall back option.
Ive asked lotus about the bearing, im hoping if they cant provide one they wouldnt object to supplying details so one could find an alternative source.

Just checked the parts manual and there`s only one part number for the jackshaft and comes complete as one unit with the bearing fitted.

If you can`t get the bearing details from lotus, then you`ll have to decided if you want my spare or i could see if a garage will remove the bearing from my spare and hopfully they`ll be some numbers :?

I'll check my jack shaft this weekend as I'm on nights away from home...

hopefully it will reveal a part No

just so you know new driveshafts come with new snap rings and you order parts from the parts list and they are sent to a lotus garage of your choice.

Some good news and some bad,

Embossed on the lip seal...

NDK.... So I'm guessing it's an NDK bearing...(Watch out Sherlock Holmes)

These series of No's are also present around the seal:-

30
19Z
43
56
9

Marked on the end of the shaft FA10

It may be possible to split the shaft, but I dont have the gear here...

Also I wouldn't remove a lip seal without a replacement one to go back in...sorry :(

thanks for the info specky, im hoping lotus can shed some light on the matter but no word yet, if all else fails i'll use the one from the BRG until i can get a replacment.

the tapping is now happening with the clutch down, so it looks like ray was spot on.

A quick question... does anyone know what size bolt i need for the 2 bolts which hold the centre bearing on the OS driveshaft to the engine block. i know its a 14mm bolt, id assume unf, what other measurments do i need?

finaly replace the bolt, its an m10 metric fine but im not sure what pitch it was, it hasnt helped with the noise but atleast im not as worried about the driveshaft coming through the floor if the bearing gives up.

Ive hit a bit if a snag, it looks like i might not have a mechanic to help me remove the parts from the imobile BRG, So this is a bit of a cry for help i need someone to assist me (more likely me to assist them) in removing the driveshafts, gearbox and engine and if possible swapping out the driveshafts in Loki. I can offer parts or cash to someone who knows what their doing. failing that i could do with an idiots guide to removing it or atleast pointers for the ground work.

no word yet from lotus about the intermediate jackshaft bearing.

I doubt it very much (in fact, I'd be surprised if it had one) as the jackshaft was a Lotus inspired solution to torque steer.
