That was with Magifoam which is just really a pre-wash. Do plan on giving it a full detail machine polish and sealant/wax treatment at some point but need to work on touching up some of the chips first.

This is an example of when I detailed my old Leon last year which had 51,000 miles on it when I was selling it, if I can get it anywhere near as shiny I will be happy:-

Found a repair kit for the lights at the bottom of the boot as well which is handy as this is a job that needs done - I assume that is another gift from you Scott :smt023

I also found a pile of rust in the left hand side of the boot which looks like it might have been some form of retaining bracket for the toolkit!

Got another job crossed off the list tonight, the drivers side light pod has never raised of its own accord since I got the car. Luckily for me Scott had left a repair kit in the boot so I removed the motor - does everybody else have to resort to a dremel to remove the arch liner fixings :smt017

As expected there was just a worn gear wheel with a pile of dried ear wax left so replaced gear & pills and reassembled:-

Refitted the motor and tried the light switch for the moment of truth and success both light pods now raise together, ironically the knocking noise on the motor overrun is actually coming from the light pod which has always worked so I guess I will have to do that side sooner rather than later:-

I must have disturbed a connection or light bulb as the dipped beam is not coming now, will have a look at that tomorrow.

Par-if you are getting a ratchet like noise on pod closure see my post "light pod problems variations on a theme"
Sorry I can't do the link thing, but I would be interested to know if the cog in the SSJ kit is smaller in diameter than the original

I've just rebuilt both my light motors and it looked like only about a third of the big nylon cog actually gets used. I just cleaned mine up and turned them around to the unused side. No problems at all. However I have a spare nylon cog if needed; just PM me your address and I'll post it out. Its used but not really showing any wear on it.

It is more of a bang....bang....bang noise than a ratchet noise. Didnt notice any ratchet noise from the side I have just fitted the SJS cog into but thats probably down to the other side being so noisy. Thanks for the tip though will try to listen for it.

Yep. Well, just the once anyway. After that you tend to replace with stainless or new ones and always use copper grease. For everything. In fact I think I have shares in it!

Cobalt drill bits were my weapon of choice, they don't mess about. I think most, if not all of us have gone through this, BFG in the BRG did a group buy for the liner fasteners, maybe he has some left. If not someone on ebay was selling similar stuff.

Thanks for all the tips and encouragement.

I ordered the stainless fixing kit from Ebay yesterday so hopefully will be here tomorrow. The Ebay kit doesnt have the epoxy included compared to the group buy kit, didnt appreciate the rawl plags were bonded in place. The epoxy looks to be 2 part, is there anything special about it or should any 2 part epoxy work?

While I had the arch liner off I noticed a few spots of rust on the chassis, dont think it is too serious after 24 years of British weather.
Image

As I was waiting on the stainless steel fixing kit for refitting the arch liner I thought it would be best to take a wire brush to the surface rust and treat with POR15.
Image

Thought it best to give it some protection as hopefully I wont have to remove the arch liner too soon in the near future (stunning brushwork  )
Image

Also fitted a pair of new door escutcheons as both were suffering from battle scars from previous removals, drivers side fitted well but the passenger side will need some fettling to the tabs as it sits a little proud.

Managed to get another couple of things crossed off the list.

Removed the headlight motor from the other side which was working but was making a banging noise on overrun when raising and lowering. Once opened up I discovered the reason for the banging, the garage who had fitted the new cog from the repair kit had failed to fit the 3 nylon pills  I guess in their defence when they opened it up there was probably very little evidence of the 3 previous parts. Both light pods now raise & lower very swiftly and smoothly, so very pleased with that. For the record I had to attack the arch liner fixings with a dremel to get them out and will replace with stainless steel items.

I picked up a set of new badges for the wheel centres to replace the previous non OEM items and think they suit the wheels and car better:-
