What really concerned me the most was the low caster, and the fact that all my 8 shims were already on the side they needed to go to improve it.
Note the dates.

was it the driver side by any chance ?

i say this because i had the same issue. which i believe i have mentioned somewhere. or at least i must have had a chat with some folk from here about it (maybe Dave ?, but definitely a few northeast owners)

after a bit of frettling about i concluded my raft assembly was out of alignment. it was as if the car had been hit in the past. but theres nothing else in the car that suggests so, which made me suspect either the assembly was faulty from the factory, or replaced with one from a crashed car prior to my ownersship

its worth checking that.

i know this is probably not the kind of news you are looking for, but just something worth considering. because when you compared a good and bad assembly side by side it was noticeable. but i cannot imagine how would one bend without visible stress ....

Something to try before the wheel alignment which can skew the results - jack up the car and rotate each wheel to see if they're actually round and straight!
If not you can measure the buckle, then mark and position the wheels so that you can compensate for it in your calculations.

My wheels are straight and true, and I don't believe any of the results remotely suggest suspension damage.
The very thought that Lotus had assembled the suspension wrong is also very unlikely, have you ever heard of quality control ?

Dave, my biggest problem would probably be finding a nice flat slab of concrete to check it on, I like the thought of DIY at least you know it's being done properly, I have a few motorsport contacts, it is possible I could look into finding the equipment I need to sort it.

I thought it was about time I sorted out my milky headlight and high beam glass.
I bought new units for the headlights as these were much more difficult to clean,
due to an obstruction viewed from the rear.
I thought I'd have a go at cleaning the high beam lights, as the glass was more accessible.


Once the lights were removed, I could see that the rings were in need of attention.


And there was the inevitable screw that need the drill

The new headlight units used H4 bulbs instead of H1,
so I had to get a couple of H4 plugs from Halfords and adapt the wiring to suit.

Apart from overhauling the lift motors and some alignment issues,
I haven't needed to remove the light pods before, so when I did I found:
The wiring harness on both sides were unsecured and allowed to go wherever they wanted to.
This was particularly bad on the offside as the wiring was getting trapped under the pod every
time the pod went down, resulting in the harness wearing through to bare wire, and cutting into the fibreglass

The car was resprayed before I bought it, so that's probably why things weren't as they should have been.

Rings treated and painted.
To clean the glass on the inside of the high beam,I used meths on soft cloth, wrapped around the end of something thin enough
to poke through were the bulb goes (plate removed), then buff with a microfibre cloth.


Gave it a much need clean.


Added the H4 plugs to the harness, and correctly anchored it. Also used self amalgamating tape to protect it.


It was so nice having the new stainless screws and springs to replace the old corroded ones,
from a group buy many moons ago (thanks Geoff )

Nice work! - It's one of those fiddly jobs that is often overlooked until something goes wrong, and by then much of the metalwork is beyond repair. Yours looks quite good, but a couple more years and it may have been another story.

I needed to fabricate all new plates for my car 15 odd years ago, but Angies car only needed one new one, and that one could have gone again if necessary, although it had gone a bit thin in one place.

Yep, it's sad......

....... but that is always the possibility when you host elsewhere. I'd like to think that all the hosted images will be backed up by the owners, and placed somewhere to keep them availlable - but that doesn't help for older stuff when the publisher has moved on.

I know that uploading pictures on this platform is a bit of a faff, but I do it so that they remain here forever (or until the site crashes!).

the problem with this is the limits on file sizes. and if i remmebre correctly aslo the amount of files a single account can upload

i was not aware of imgur stopping displaying images. i hope i can fetch mine back

this is partially a reason why im moving more into the video realm. i cant imagine something big like youtube to delete content as long as the creator is adding more and they get more trafic as a result
