Hope LEC and its members are well! I will share relevant photos in a second post. Following on from the man himself above, on the 17/11/23 mid-day driving from work (Redditch) out towards Alcester on a country B-road, I saw a flash of BRG and Yellow on the side of the road. I thought no it can’t be, having sold the car to someone not local – south Wales if I remember right – so I decided to pull over about a ¼ of a mile down the road in the next lay-by.
Wandering back up the road, I was soon greeted by a rather sorry looking Stripey. On the grass verge, there she was caked in mud, Police tape around the boot and nose in a hedge - gutted. First glance, I thought it looked in one piece, albeit now needing more than just a clean. Then getting more up close and in the mud myself, I soon realised nope this is a proper front end job at least. Funnily enough it wasn’t the first time I had seen her this year, having stumbled across it for sale on eBay a few months beforehand, with an asking price of over £10k.
For anyone who knew Sy, will know the amount of time and effort spent on this car, they will also know how devastated he would be on this outcome. Not only because it was his pride and joy, but for his passion of all things Elan and now another one off the road. Let’s face it he loved them lined up, each Elan in their colour group, knowing one less BRG in place would only torment him.
The following Friday, I sat googling and soon came across an old advert for the sale of Stripey, under its current owner – ignore the alloys shall we. However, using the platform I have reached out to them, to find out more. Most importantly no one was hurt, he was out driving it in the rain and the rest is history. I have left him my mobile number and asked to be kept posted on the insurance’s buy back options. Doubtful I will be the one to buy Stripey, sadly not the right time for a project car, but it is good to know this project might not have quite ended yet …
