Still dont know what to do about selling or not Sh4rk (will decide after Dony), but changes and upgrades keep happening so I think I have to let you know.

New MOMO Steering wheel and MOMO Handbrake (that is a pair with the gearknob) is installed. New NOS Purge lines are instaled. New Spark plugs and spark plug leads as well. The Leads have made lotsa of difference and the engine response is amazingly increased. Honestly at 1.1 bar now feels like if it was at 1.6bar, that much is the difference, a real trasformation! On top of all that, Greg and Victor are trying to figure out more space for an extra NOS botle for the Donny trip, because I dont want to dissapoint any Ferraris we meet at Italian Autostrata and not racing them :p

Costas, I have to say that is the best looking Elan interior I have ever seen. It is interesting that you followed the same route as me to getting obscene power using nitrous. In other words, a simple MBC & FCD setup, then let the speed-shop build a wet-nitrous system which managed the additional air/fuel mixture supplied in addition to the maximum (fuel) the Elan's ECU could provide, dyno tuned to keep it within stochiometric tolerance. It is a tried & true & fairly painless way to get maximum HP without having to resort to expensive replacement ECUs.

I have never been so impressed with a replacement turbo as I now am with Houdini's "disco potato". Until now I felt I would be loosing the torque & responsiveness that is even more important to me in daily driving than ultimate top-end performance. I'll wait & see how he does electronically managing all that power before deciding to go down that route with any Elan I *might* buy in the future. If he succeeds there are 2 advantages to his approach for me: 1) Extra luggage space for long trips with a lady friend & 2) You never run out of air for the turbo to compress!

One thing I am leery about is drilling holes (or rather, having someone else drill holes) in my car. A solution I have used in the past is to tell the shop to just tape or velcro new fittings in a temporary way so that I can decide how to permanently mount them myself. This has allowed me to reroute things and keep a certain symmetry and clean/artful/appealing look to my cars. Anyway, we all see things others have done to their Elans, like what we see, then tailor their basic idea with what our own mind tells us is right for us. For me, there is nothing so fantastic to look at as a modified Elan, as it kindles my own imagination as to what is possible and therefore what I want to achieve.

You have done great things, and I, along with everyone, hope you never stop.

Good luck my friend, Matt

Actually my turbo isn't the "Disco Potato" it's the GT2560R good for 280 hp or so. The good news is there is a direct replacement coming out that is another version of the "Disco Potato" (Approx. 320 hp or more) in the exact same orientation, so it will be a direct bolt on. I'll bolt one on as soon as it's available. It has to pass a burst and containment test for liabilty reasons first. That will happen without any issues I'm sure.

Sometimes even myself, get stunned by the way Greg's brain works. He is never satisfied and he is always looking for more innovations or upgrades.

I went this morning to DSP to change Oil and actually this time we used AMS Racing Oil and we ll see what happens...

Image

Later at noon when I went back everything seemed normal .... but when the hood was poped up, my eyes glanced at a certain spot of the engine bay that used to be a mess of cables, now it was completely empty!!! it was like all cables have been vanished from the engine bay!

Image

I turned to Greg to ask him what has happened and he looked at me and asked me "is this really the only change you noticed?" so then I look back at the engine I saw that! (check the blue silicone tube on top of the leads)

Image

Image

With a wierd expression on my face, while Greg was smilling, I turned back and saw all the bits and parts that have been removed and I managed to say just one word ...... "Jesus!"

Image

Greg told me he will expalin me in detail what he has done tommorow. Off course I trust him blindly 100% for every single thing he does but still I am stunned!

By the way tommorow if we find the time, we are gonna Dyno Sh4rk for the last time, we want to go for 400+hp without the use of NOS at 1.7bar and then make some dynos at 1.0bar with and without NOS to see the difference between them.

The most recent Addition to DSP Lotus decoration is this poster on the wall, Evil Greg on the side :)

Looks like he removed your A/C compressor/manifold vacuum solenoids (raises the idle to compensate for the A/C coming on) and put in a different (more hidden) "blowby" filter for the cam-cover. Personally I have to leave my A/C controls on the car but was contemplating doing something like that for the "oil-blowby". The only thing that concerns me is that any oil which goes through your filter no longer drains down by gravity back into your engine. I do agree with Paul that your mechanic really does take pride in his work and goes the extra mile... which is almost unheard of.

Anyway, now you've gotta grab some wax/polish and clean that little area up!

I have removed the A/C looooong ago! perhaps thats the case?

Also greg told me on the phone that he installed a Maserati Ghibli Oil trap because he noticed a minor likeage. Now he drives all the oil that escapes the crancase (?) at high pressure directly to the oil trap and all the oil fumes go to the Air Filter intake.

If that makes sense to you that means that my technical vocabulary has been enormously upgraded since day one in LEC :-)

the 2 blue relays removed are for (1) the fuel evaporative cannister control and (2) the EGR valve. You won't miss either of them but just be sure the fuel vapor line is well capped off!! That oil separator is probably useless anyway so removing it will not make a difference either. Is there an oil catch can on that blue line? If so it will only get a few drips--you could probably cap the whole line and it'd be the same.

can't wait to hear about the dyno runs . . .

Yes there is a Maserati Oil Trap as mentioned above :P

I did get few drips draining Dug, but it happened everytime I was parked and its a bad feeling to see a few drops of oil beneath your engine everysingle time... so its not actually the same :-D

I've removed the EGR valve and related hoses/VSV also and can't say I notice a difference. Don't know if I agree that there is no benefit from the oil separator, however. I'm sure the shop knows what it is doing, but it seems there is a good reason why the piece was there. This is something Lotus added to the engine - the Isuzu version does not have it. I'm curious what the shop has to say about it...

I thought I allready explained it but it seems I didnt manage to, I know that sometimes I cant put in English words what I want to describe, its very hard when such technical vocabulary is included. I ll try oncemore then...

When I run the engine at high boost pressure for a long time (thats 1.5-1.6+bar) that "piece" was leaking oil. Then it kept leaking a few annoying drops every time I parked the car. Perhaps there was a reason for that piece beeing there but perhaps not capable to handle oil at 1.6+boost? Dont really know, I dont have the knowledge to know.... Fact is it had to be replaced or altered in the current way it is now, and Greg chose the second way. I just came back from a hard driving at 1.6bar, all is good, and want to check tommorow if there is any leakage from anywhere.

The final Dyno at MAXIMUM Sh4rk Power, will be a definate judge to that as well ;-)

In a stock car, the oil separator has a hose leading from it to the intake "accordian". When people see oil in their intake, this is where is comes from as it gets "recycled". Since you put the new intake on, what was that hose hooked to? If nothing, this is where your leak was coming from. I had the same - a bit of oil sprayed out from time to time and made a mess of the lower firewall. I need to do a similar catch tank or something for mine as I don't have that hose hooked into my new intake either.

That hose was directed again into the Air Filter Intake from the front side, so it was not were the leak came from. Actually initially it was just capped as Doug mentioned but when the leak was noticed it was directed back in the Air Filter Intake just in case...

The Maserati I had had an electric pump to remove fuel vapours from the pressurized plenum the Weber carb was in. It ran for 6 seconds upon ignition before you were supposed to start the engine. This was to prevent any residual fuel-vapours from igniting. I removed it. Live on the wild side.

I really jumped out of my chair of joy when I saw that photoshop picture!

In the few minutes between my 2 posts, I allready Emailed the picture to Greg, talked to the phone with him and we agreed to discuss to build it. Last year I missed Dony because of the rear panel delay. Monday morning will see if I can make it and build this piece of art before this years Dony, without any chance to miss it.

Its easy to put it on Photoshop but have to see if the elise defuser (diffuser? sp?) CAN really WORK on the Elan. The rear bumber has a built angle beneath that forces the air flowing below to create downforce and so by destroying the rear bumber to install the defuser could have the opposite results (also the elan is not flat beneath). Will check thoroughly on Monday. Greg told me that if I am willing to pay for the materials and if we conclude it can really work then he is doing it as a present to me within 2 weeks time.

Trust my Word!

I AM NOT SELLING SH4RK PERIOD!

Hi
Are you saying that you can dispense with the EGR completely without any consequences? Does it bring up any fault codes? The manual says it may cause detonation on acceleration and overheating, have you noticed any?
