It really sucks that all your (nice?) images and movies are gone :(

I am a fan of your car but 85% of the images and all the movies are gone :(

Wow.... interesting thread... as a new member (again) had never seen this thread before... and was just amaized at the kind of HP you have achieved from a 1.6 litre engine..... truely amazing!! I never knew this was achievable from the elan engine...

Costas I am impressed with what you have done with your car. well done!! Especially living in a hot enviroment. I used to struggle to keep a stock Elan cool!!

After spending the last few hours reading this thread from start to finish anout the only thing you havn't tried is water /methenol injection. I have no idea if it would work on a car but we use it in our turboprop aircraft because of the hot summers here... gives about a 30% torque increase... but there again looking at all the NOS tanks in your boot there would be no space for it...

anyway, its been a fantastic evenings reading.... good luck with the sh4rk...

Hello Costas!
Project Sh4rk has held together with solid reliability for a long time. I'm very interested to know what max boost setting you've settled on for daily driving, how often you hit peak boost (daily? twice a month?) and how long you hold at peak. Smaug was slightly out of adjustment and peaked (briefly) at about 18PSI/1.24 BAR and I panicked but I wonder just how much I have to worry. I'd greatly value your comments.

Hi

I am late on this but SH4RK looks beautiful with the rear light panel. Can they still make one for me at DSP ?

THANKS

I drive the car on daily Basis and I do an average of 2000km/month.

After the modification the car has completed 80k of solid hard driven Kms, no damage at all. I had lots of electrical issues during the first year (had them while in Donny as well) but once they were solved everything is joyfully perfect.

The Max Boost I ever driven the sh4rk was 1.7bar and it scared the sh*t out of me, but the most extreme set up was at 1.6bar with NOS (about 450hp) but It was driven by my 2 mechanics and not me, they sure were pale when they stepped of the car :P

I have 2 sets of Boost , manually selected incar. For the past 6 months the Sh4rk is set at 1.2 bar for driving when the weather is hot (it gets a lot hot over here) and at 1.5 for most of the time. Even if I drive for a short distance there is no way that the revs wont go on redline for a few times.

On the minus points is that I have to change oil and do a regular service every 2.500kms and I ve done so with great respect and thus I had no problem at all in all those years.

So as a sum, Sh4rk is used daily at max output, in other words, treated as it should be ;-)

Thanks, Costas! I feel quite good, then, about the 1.2 BAR setting to which Smaug currently boosts. I agree, full boost and redline should happen on most drives in an Elan. :burnout:

Keep in mind that I use a Cylinder head Competition Gasget which of course is custom ordered & made. Actually I couldnt trust the stock gasget because (thats a personal opinion) at high boost pressures of over 1.2 it would be the most vulnerable part in the engine. I remember Greg was strongly arguing that the stock gasget wouldnt handle 1.2+ constant use of boost.

Very good point. Maybe 1.1 then.

Monty what really should worry you for Boost Pressure above 1.2 is not the gusget but the pistons... Some ppl have gone over the 1.2bar mark but with what reliability? I am here, 4 years later from the modification, and all is healthy in the engine. Go for forged pistons, and that combined with a custom gusget can give you more reliability. The Custom made Competition Gasget I use is done on Sh4rk measurements (I have 1.5 bigger piston diameter than stock ones) and it costs about 200Euros including installation. It is also thicker by 2mm... and thus affects the compretion ratio (sp?)

One year i will get the engine rebuilt (not for a long time thou)

Forgot you fitted oversized pistons  The only reason i asked about the HG was that i`ve had 3 HG failure last year, saying that the 1st one was more than likely 17 years old, 2nd was a different material (head bolts came loose), 3rd New Lotus HG which failed in a different place and can`t explain why and the only reason i could come up with is a bit off crap got in as i was fitting the gasket
I`ve done about 6/7 trackdays on this HG and Touch wood everything has been fine, just next year i`ll be going to a bigger turbo and thought if there was a better HG out there i`d get one just incase my HG goes again :?

Cheers
