HI

I have just splashed out on this 92 SE, I dont know one end of an engine bay to another. Here is a pic any advice would be helpful.
I think there are a few projects I would like to get done, I think first off I may look at chiping her and then she really needs a brake upgrade.
Bits that have been done include
She is a 1992 on a k and has had alot of work done to her including
New clutch, including flywheel, bearings and oil seals
New sump,
Cam belt and belt adjuster.
Injector flush with fuel additive.
Water pump,
New custom built radiator,
New coolant circulation pump,
Torquemaster turbo sparkplugs,
New high performance HT leads,
New battery,
S2 type hood,
Larger later s2 allys,
HKS turbo dump valve & steel inlet conversion pipe,
K&N inlet filter.
Exhaust is a big bore peco stainless system.
Turbo XS adjustable boost valve
Not sure what some of these upgarde do but make her go QUICK.

Any thoughts?

The SUN is cracking the pavements up here in the Glorious North.

I have just managed to secure some AP Racing Brakes and will be getting them fitted in couple of weeks time. I will let you know how I get on.

Yes. Brakes first, THEN chip.
You want to be sure you can stop before you go even faster.
Standard brakes are barely up to the job as it is.
Stick 40 more BHP in there and it's a recipe for disaster.

Edit: The AP's should do the job and make you the envy of a lot of other Elan owners. Be careful where you park at Donington, you may return to find it up on bricks!!!

It is pissing it down here in the midlands

Yes I would be very interested in how you get on, Does that include calipers? and cost would be good.

She has had front and back brake discs replaced with high spec racing ebc grooved & drilled discs and 'green stuff' high temp pads but the brakes are still scary,I bet to have driven on standard disks and pads was interesting!.

Just a few points:-

1) Nice car - i like it!

10) With the brake upgrades you already have, the car should be okay - AS LONG AS THEY ARE/HAVE BEEN MAINTAINED CORRECTLY see the other threads on sticky sliders, and the way to maintain them - also the thread on the rear callipers from USA.

11) That blue thingy at the front of your engine - make sure you know what it is, how it works, and more importantly, the effect it is having on the engine internals/condition/longevity as well as the power it is providing! (Here's a clue - it overrides some of the sensors to convince the engine brain to make the car quicker - forgive the laymans explanation - others will give you the technical stuff if you want it!)

100) It certainly seems that most of the mechanical upgrades/maintenance items have been done, just keep an eye on the wishbones (front and back) for any signs of corrosion - well worth giving them a top with a hammer if you need to - it's better to find out they're shot that way, rather than the way Monty found out on his old elan  A salutory lesson to all of us!

(1) mmm nice
(10) Agreed, if they are correctly set up, they will pass the MOT and be able to lock up. I believe that on-release reviews praised the good brakes . This being the case, I have my suspicions that it is more to do with the feel when compared to 'modern' brakes.
(100) Check at least once a year, Kurust, Hammerite and Waxoyl at the ready.

Enjoy
Mark

11) Job number 1. You need to remove your MBC and also to look out for an FCD and/or chip 'upgrade' possibly by SuperChip.

God I like that colour.

Hi

Thanks for all your comments,

What is a FCD?
I had a look under her last week there is some surface rust on the wishbones and a little on the chasie, I will look into kurust, in the comming weeks.

As for the brakes, the calipars are stock it was just a disk and pad upgrade that was done, I feel when driving that I need to leave an extra 50 yards to stop in time for a junction even at 20 mph.

I dont see the point in just refurbing the stock calipars, I may as well upgrade the lot.
