i think it took matt around a day to fabricate this part and the manifold took around a day to make as well the material is a very high quality stainless steel, look on there website simpson race exchausts for pictures of other cars, when mine was there they had a GT40 and two british touring cars also he does work for LOLA cars and did i think do A1 GP stuff as well, the race mini miglia my dads friend built runs a swift tune motor, and that produced another 7 bhp after matt built a custom system does,nt sound like a lot but in race terms that is big news, not sure what mine is putting out but we think its around about the 140 bhp mark it,s a lot quicker, also had the head done done by charlie mahony in dagenham, he used to work for burtons and is considered to be one of the best head men and general engine builders around, actually i will attempt to put some more pics on the site.

Looks superb - given Matt's pedigree I'd imagine this to be a lightweight system - what gauge is the material he's used for your car?
I'm sure the N/A Manifold must be a work of art - be nice to see a photo.

I'd be great to see a decked-out n/a for once. Here, here; let's see a pic of the manifold. Not even Bill's IsuzuPerformance offered an M100 n/a manifold. Basically, no one makes anything SPECIFICALLY for an n/a! You rarified yourself out of the marketplace.

hi guys

Ailwyn has the pictures so i,m sure they will be arriving shortly, the manifold is matched equal length down pipes, i believe it is 14 gauge stainless not to sure of the grade but i no they only use the highest grades of stainless and inconel pipe, the collectors are hand fabricated from seperate bent tubes they are finished of by tig welding the component but not forgeting to gas purge the the collector, gas purging is where you fill the component with a flowing pressure of pure argon which enables the penetration while you are welding to be smooth on the inside as the outside i,e increasing gas flow speed, the flange on this was water cut from stainless and then matched to the head, i did show matt pictures of bills izusu performance manifold or header and he said that 2.1/2 size was to big and because of space on the elan m100 the pipe needed to twist round. To ensure both pipes are equal length they are carefully measured and filled with sand to ensure correct volume, they are Decibel tested prior to hand over and road tested, the EGR pipe was capped of by myself with a stainless gas valve nut the thread was a very unusual size and after much searching i found from a gas components supplier, should have looked there first really as this is my living, the head has light polishing and porting and stainless three angle valves, would like to go for cams really but as the verniers are unavailable this could get costly, next thing on the list is a complete rebuild and lighten and balance poss set of AP power throttle bodies, although a custom set of intakes would need to be fabricated from aluminum and crank angle sensor i,m told , i have a set of Bob browns rear hub and disk conversion, and Hi spec fronts so he may be the man that can help, he is i might add a very nice and very inteligent man, i have to contact him soon as i have had the rear hubs powder coated in the hardest du pont coating available, will attempt to put them on the site as well, my wife says i have OCD but hay ho it keeps me out of the pub (a bit)

you beat me to it ,

you are right though it was a toyota drift car (apparently) with a full house honda type R race motor on throttle bodies with the biggest polished intake trumpets ive ever seen in my life, the whole car was built by the team inc cage suspension running on superlights sounded the business on them bodies (made me smile) as well and i,m told weighed not much more than a fiesta, with well over 300+ bhp...

My Pal is doing exactly same thing at the moment.

He bought Honda engine and gearbox from S2000 but changed his mind and sold it and has had a Beams Toyota engine fitted.

His name Conrad check out his thread. Its going to be awsome!!! link below

Sorry for hijacking your thread.

When I have the upgrade turbo fitted I would love a manifold like that....

forgot to say the weight of that cast iron manifold was shocking,,,, alone that must weigh at least 9 -10 kg, the stainless item i could pick up with my finger tips, and the same with the front calipers i could not believe the weight of them......

i want one of them always liked the AE86 love the pictures

talk to matt @ simpsons race exchausts he does sell parts in component form , but to be honest its worth the money to get it done right,, and let him build the whole thing,, i have seen some custom turbo manifolds in his workshop, normally some fairly fancy machinery down there have a look at the website, i m there on saturday as he is changing the rear pipe for me i want something a bit different, will post pictures when i get them......

woohoo! Nice stuff  I hope I will get someday a similar system for my N/A. Looks very good. Do you have a soundfile? And just to be noticed, the rest of the bottom of the car looks very well too. Nice work all in all :smt023

Outstanding paul69 - doesn't get any better than that. Nice to read about the 'subtle' art of tuning a naturally aspirated car for a change - polishing, 3-angle valve jobs, port matching, filling pipes with sand...marvelous :D Hope you're able to get the throttle bodies and cam's sorted :)

Many thanks

Ive been looking at a company called AT power they are an original set of lotus engineers who have branched out alone and set up business just up the road from hethel norfolk, have spoke to them about doing a custom set up for the elan and they expressed an interest look at the website ATpower.com they have developed a shaft less spindle set up and the quality is first rate, i must say these would look first rate, bob has suggested that the elan n/a would respond well to throttle bodies the cost is high but they are a work of art, i like the look of the handles you had done by the way they look cool some real nice work, thought i would return the kind comments well done that man.....

Paul,

Lovely work on the exhaust, I'd appreciate contact details for the man that did the work for you. Thanks also for the link for AT (try http://www.atpower.co.uk). I have a cunning plan in the back of my mind for my NA  .
