Donations

Dear all

As Donington fast-approaches, I have been reminded of the current financial status of our funds.
As you know we have always survived on the strength and generosity of our members and their donations. In the past this has been heavily supplemented by the organisers of sticker, mugs and clothing buys etc.
I have no wish to alter this modus operandi. The last thing I want is to formalise things to such an extent that we end up with committees and governors and all the in-fighting and ill feeling therewith associated.

However, planning and purchasing has been going on behind the scenes. We have the normal Donington and Stoneleigh commitments to fund along with any possible ad-hoc Celebrations - if there are to be any ;-) about which, even if I knew anything, I am still not at liberty to speak.

To this end we have bought a new stand pop-up type back drop and recognised the need for a gazebo - if anyone out there knows of a source...
Furthermore, Geoff is of the opinion that the hosting fees for the site and forum should be paid for by the membership (if possible) rather than by individuals, therefore keeping the ethos of an "autonomous collective".

All these things come at a cost.

Can I therefore ask that any guilt (or otherwise)-fuelled donations, kitty surpluses or spare readies are directed towards the collection tin that will be prominent on the Stand.

Like always, should individuals not want to make their donations public, I will accept monies, cheques etc either on the day or by snail mail (just PM me for my address).

Thanks everyone - Sy

It should not be too much of an ask for people to drop a tenner in the kitty as they pass the stall. Just think how much cash this site has saved you, and a tenner will pale in comparison.

Says Gary as he searches his old holiday money looking for that 100 pesetas coin

Seriously though, if everyone donated £10 at the time they received their name badge at the MOTO rendezvous or in the Donington car park it would go a long way towards the financial upkeep and LEC administrative costs

75 x £10 = £750 - let's do it ? I'm sure there won't be any objectors ??

Well, I'm not going to set an amount nor make donations compulsory.
If folk think we are a worthy cause, they'll donate what they see fit and can afford.

But thanks for the support.

Please do donate.

I don't see why a select few should have to pay hosting costs for the site, when we all use it.

That was one of my aims when I inherited the kitty. I'm still not sure who, or how much or when, but I would like to have the kitty in a position to be able to pay after Donie. I hope to catch up with all the blue mug owners in the next couple of weeks as well as I'm sure Neil and I wouild both like to see the back of them without having to parcel them up individually!

I agree totally with Sy's sentiments about not setting a value or making a contribution compulsary: If you feel you have benefitted from LEC either financially or spiritually and/or have picked up a free ID pass, free plaque or free CheapScan then please be as genererous as you always appear to have been. If circumstances make it difficult, then please don't feel obliged to give more than you can as there will always be future opportunities.

now that the pin badges are here the ones which have not been preordered can be put on the stall and for a donation of £5 you can have one.....(that'll actually be the £4 back to me and £1 to LEC funds)....and if they all go it should leave an extra £50~£60 in the LEC pot

At the risk of staring a debate, :-D Selling advertising space is my good idea to help fund the site upkeep? You could auction a sponsor or 2 (none competitive if 2).

I think that would be a great solution, maybe too commercial for some? But there is a big space at the top of the screen worth a load of money to a decent parts supplier.

What say you LEC?

PS I like the Yellow one Mr G

Gareth, I'll take a Creme Egg (yellow) one please!

Phil, too commercial for me I'm afraid. The fact that LEC has no commercial sponsorship is one of the great attractions to me.

I'm with Geoff and Sy on this. I believe we should pay the upkeep costs of the site (domain fees, hosting etc) and whilst the expenditure on other items to support us at shows etc is as low as we can get it there are inevitably some costs that cannot be avoided. Phil's idea to sell advertising space is good, but I am against this on principle and I would not wish to see sticky commercialism creeping into LEC. I am strongly in favour of making a little profit from the sort of things that we sell or have made, this of course is always at the discretion of the individual or group putting the effort in and I favour the donation scheme, voluntary and what people are willing to give.

Gareth, Green and Yellow for me please as I was too slow to order  .

I know that I dont post alot of replys, but whenever I have had car trouble the members of LEC have always been there to help and for me that is well worth a tenner!!!

So when I pass the stand at Donny I WILL be dropping off my tenner for the kitty. If LEC can help me, the least I can do is help in return.

Also, them badges are awesome how do I get hold of a couple? :-D

We could also add a little to all group buys, just like with the LEC pin badges?
