OK so I appreciate I am very late to the party but if it's not too late, I would like one?

Thanks,

Okay, I have to admit that with the whole Covid situation, this was placed so far back on the burner that it fell off the stove.....

..... as stated early on, I was intending to get a few for distribution at Castle Combe, whilst accepting that a few would need posting. (Obviously, that didn't happen).

Looking at the list anyway, it appears that there are many that would need posting, and the postage costs to far-away places will easily outstrip any discount I may be able to negotiate....... I would need to be able to save a couple of quid on each item to cover costs, and as they can be bought freely for somewhere around £6-£8 each on eBay, I have decided to throw in the towel and not go ahead with this at the moment.

I appologise to anyone who wanted to get on board, but as I say - the item can be on your doormat in a couple of days for £6-80 anyway.....so I was only going to be able to save you a couple of quid.... and probably nothing at all for the non-UK owners (who can still buy the item from their local eBay).

The part number you need to look for is AHA5445 - fuel tank grommit for a variety of British classics (MG/AH etc).

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

Thanks Dave, no worries and thanks for the alternative part number, found it on Ebay - even if the fit isn't great, it will be a lot better then the one that it is replacing!

I never went ahead with a big order as most of the people who wanted one were not going to be at Castle Combe, where it was originally intended to distribute them. As most needed to be posted, it actually worked out cheaper for people to buy them direct from the supplier rather than pay a portion of the postage to me, and then the onward postage to them.

I did buy 3 this year (which cleared Sussex Classic Car Parts out of stock), but used 2 on my cars and one went elsewhere.

Currently, the cheapest place to get them seems to be the MGOC- but I don't know about delivery costs.

Like most things, the cost is small, but the delivery is usually dear for what it is.

Years ago I bought the proper Lotus M100 part, fitted it and within months out of the sealed polythene bag it had got a grey powdery film on it and perished and split within a year.

Ever since I've used Healey Sprite / MG Midget petrol filler pipe grommets that fit and are of more recent manufacture ... search on ebay for AHA5445, the Austin Healey Part Number. Last I bought was under £5 delivered, but a few years ago now and still looking good.

£6.30 now .. AH Filler Grommet

I expect every car either needs this grommet replacing, or has already been treated to a replacement at least once in its life. Its probably one of the first jobs i did to mine when i got it last year as its so simple and really does tidy up a shabby looking area. Austin Healey grommet was my choice too.
