Lotus Elan Central

Hi all,

I am working with a UK supplier to see if we can get a deal on a front big brake kit for the M100 Elan.

I know a few of our LOONYs out there have M100s. If you are interested in a price of 500 pounds ($763 US) or lower plus shipping and duty which should be about $100 US please let me know. there would be additional shipping from Buffalo NY to wherever you are located.

The kit includes:
• 2 x Four Piston Calipers
• (choice of Silver, Red, Black, Yellow or Blue Calipers)
• 2 x Vented 275/283mm Discs (plain or grooved)
• 2 x Brackets
• Fitting guide and Bolt kit
They do have a economy kit for 430 pounds with plain discs and plain calipers.

They do have a caliper kit for the back which replaces the rear calipers, Cost is about $315 pounds for the pair.
I am also looking at doing this myself, actually paying a company to machine up the parts. But first I want to see how many have interest.

If I have a final figure on how many we need, I will hit them for a quote. Price does not include pads which are anywhere between $30 and $80 depending on type of pad.

New brake hoses are $100 for he front if you want those.

Let me know if you are interested. Money would be paid up front before I order. If I can get 3 or 4, we may get a better price.

or look at Hispec, called in on them on my way to Brands last year and the guy told me they supply front brakes to PNM .... www.hispecbrake.co.uk/lotus.html

Before fitting big brakes with multi piston calipers it's an idea to do a few sums to check the master cylinder can deliver the fluid needed without the pedal being in the carpet...

I think the reason buy from PNM is so they don't have to deal with HiSpec. Or maybe the latter's customer service has improved.
PNM's has always been great.

Been a while since I've been here.
I have a set of the hats lying around if someone needs to copy them. They were part of the big brake kit for the Wilwoods. If someone would like to borrow them to get dimensions, I'm happy to contribute. . .been a long while since I've done that here.

I haven't heard back from him since. but i suspect if enough people are (still) interested this may go ahead.

I saw Tony at Watkins Glen last month (took the Elise). I wish I'd been paying attention to LEC, I'd have asked him about it in person! Been wondering what to do about my Elan brakes ever since I bought it.

Hopefully Tony will be at LOG. We can accost him there.

I think he is looking into this again.
He gave me an estimation cost in dollars for the pmn kit that is available for 600 pounds. After conversion it is a considerable saving, I will ask him to update this post to see who else is interested

I am going to do this. Sorry for the delay but actually better as the exchange rate has really dropped. We have 4 signed up so far. (Myself, Chris M, Dean G and Tuga who is in the UK) I imagine if we get more, shipping per set will be less and less.

This is what I have.

If we add it all up in pounds and then do the conversion….for the PNM kits. Non slotted rotors. If you want the slotted rotors, then add another 50 pounds. The 19 pounds are for the road pads which they feel are suffenient as the kit is SO MUCH better than stock. EBC Green pads are 45 pounds. We can do whatever you want., but this is the kit I am going with.

500 cost of kit
70 shipping
19 pads
35 SS lines
Total 624 pounds which is $818 at todays rates.

I have to find out the import duty, but I think it is like 3 or 4 percent. Then the shipping cost to you. That could be netted to close to zero by our savings of shipping 3 kits from the UK. Don’t know what our savings will be.

I would have you send the money up front, I would put it on my card and then order the parts. Would need to know what color you want. As we do have a choice of colors on the calipers of (Red, Lotus yellow, pale yellow, black, silver or blue)

They told me it would take several weeks to make them up.
