I have a Austin 7 box saloon which i am re building, i don't think anyone can mistake it for a Lotus

Really, have you not seen Colin's first attempts at building a Lotus? -
My sadly departed friends Richard Parker (Initially Rochdale Olympic) and Ron Hickman ( Workmate) both worked for Colin and had some amazing tales about his expectations and designs, but both transformed what a Lotus should and does look like.

That was the concept of most "Specials" the use of a chassis frame and the running gear, it was the bodywork that originally made the difference until companies such as Ballamy, Aquaplane etc got involved.
My Ford Special is E93a, std chassis frame, Ballamy high ratio diff, 16" commercial wheels, most transverse leaf springs removed, tuned 10hp sidevalve, std 3 speed gearbox, but critically a woven matt body (not chopped strand) which gave it lightness. Built 1954
