1967 lotus elan +2

well having umed and ared about this for the past couple of months I finally decided that unfortunately it will need to go.......personal reasons more than anything else which is the most dissapointing thing about it all..

anyway....rough outline
1967 +2....carnival red...galv chassis, rebuilt on lotus galv chassis, rebuilt brakes, engine, 4 speed gear box, re trimmed interior......approx 4500 miles since rebuild, later lotus 8 +2 alloys refurbed, stainless exhaust, all brightwork very good.....
CL valuation at £12000..insurance agreed valuation at £12000.....
open to offers but I'll need to get it out of the way before june

didnt see the article....what was it like??....
also why would you want the S130.....they were 126bhp but in S form weighed a damn sight more than the early car....
basically mine is an early light weight version with 118 bhp.....as opposed to the s version with 126bhp.....
the early cars are faster....and its still got 0-60 in about 7secs
...
only costs me £90 per year thats why Im finiding it so frustrating.....free road tax, cheap insurance

hi gareth the article was on the 12 of february 09 it was a two page raod test .they did a piece on both marks the a 1970 plus 2 and a 1971 130 bvh.the article was ok but ccw dont seem to go into things like other classic mags.the borrowed the two cars from www.uksportscars.com they keep some nice lotus marks.when we bought the elan for max we looked at +2s and nearly went that way.we also looked at ginetta g15s .but the s2 one.but it was very close.max and andy

there are very few like mine.....its pre 'S'.....it was number 349 off the line and came with the 6 dial dash and the baby elan seats....
by the time it got to 1970 itd got the heavy jag interior and an 8 dial dash ....
my mate followed me in his S2 elise to a lotus meet and was shocked at how fast it was.....

it looks beautiful. .its still going to be hard going up against the 130s for sale out there.for the same sort of money.theres a lot of nice stuff out there .all the lotus owners are on the same wagon at the moment just before spring drying their cars out.did you look at the web site i like the blue 130 .very tempting.good luck max and andy

What is the point of Club Lotus agreed valuation? On buying my Elan my first thought was to join Club Lotus. Thinking that i would get the best valuation from a specialist in the mark.Also to get an outside car cover. That doesnt fit ,but thats another story.I did the photo bit and sent the other bits to the club.I was chuffed when they sent me a nice certificate with a 12.500 valuation.On sending my valuation to Adrian Flux they sent me a reply stating that my valuation was no good.On speaking to them they said that they used thier own independent valuations.This is standard through the industry.And that i would have to do the photo thing again.When i spoke to Club Lotus to check they agreed with Flux.When i asked them what the point of their valuation.The said it was nice to have.Nice but no use.And it took three weeks to come.Just hope in the end its worth all the messing about.Does an agreed insurance valuation gurantee you .Said pay out whatever. i.e If you right it off .£12.500 in the bank.I no its nice to have but its only any value to yourself.Even if your selling your car,people are going to be more interested in the insurance valuation. CL valuations are for cars over 25 years old....classics really....
I too have a CL valuation for my m100....and I too use adrian flux....
they use a rational system and 'market' prices for cars less than 25 years old.....
CL gave me a value of £11k.....adrian flux gave me £9k...but that was only after an argument and getting their independant valuer to come and look at the car......
to be fair CL have always been on the 'high' side and a little out of touch with reality

What sort of condition is it in.Oh and how much leg room is there in the +2, Im 6.2 is there enough room for me to get my feet on the peadles.Max&Andy

they'll give you market value unless you ask for agreed value.......
then you'll need to send them pics and they will consult their independant guy...depends on which company they go through as to what you get offered after that....you'll probably get an offer at about £10k......
as for the +2.....theres more leg room in that than there is in the m100

Ive already sent Flux all the stuff they asked for .I was just waiting for the agreed valuation from club Lotus thinking that was the way to do it.I even sent Flux the certificate that club Lotus gave me.With the 12.500 on it .And they have still got it.I hope they take the club value into concideration.I just have to waite for a nice day to get some new photos.7 seconds for a +2 thats 2 seconds quicker then book figures.Pritty good if its right.Hope its not a fishing story .People will be expecting it. lol....not in the books Ive got.....
it states 7.5 and 7.8....so yes....pretty damn quick....dont forget that this was cutting edge when it came out......it was also about the same price as a jag e type
and even today if you stick yer foot down it picks up rather smartly and will happily pi$$ bikers off on twisty roads

Just going off CCW. It gives 118bhp 108bft@4000rpm 0-60 8.9secs 118mph 27mpg for +2 and for the 130 it gives 126bhp@6500rpm 113bft@5500rpm o-60 7.4secs 121mph 23mpg. What do you think would be the easiest to sell in the current climat.A low milage s2 or the +2 worth the same sort of money.

Andy, Why do you need a valuation when you have only just bought the car...I would have thought the amount you paid was as good a valuation as any.

To get they agreed insurance valueation.For the sort of money i paid .If i had to go out and buy a palicio car with less than 30.000miles.It wouldnt be much short of 10.000.Thats if i could get one.I think i would have to pay more to tempt somone to part with one.I think if we all stick to our guns people will have to pay the prices we ask. Especially the s2s.I think the prices are right being high.With the numbers i hope to make a couple of grand.Over the next couple of years. Max&Andy t
