Scottish member's help required

A French friend of mine has asked me if I know anyone who can look at a car for him. It's 30 miles west of Glasgow. Now the problem is that it's not an M100, it's an Austin 7. If you can help in anyway I'm sure he will be very grateful. PM me and I'll pass on his details.

7s are a fairly specialist market, Chris - and I speak as someone who rebuilt a 7 many years ago. There are many differences between 7s and more recent cars - not least the scale of the various mechanical parts. And it’s hard to get a feel for whether, say, the brakes are in good shape if you’re only used to hydraulics.

Great car, but if I were seriously interested, I’d be inclined to ask someone from (e.g.) austin7club.org or the 750MC to take a look on my behalf.

I’ll be in Ayr at the end of next week, so if it’s there I might be able to have a look. I know sod all about Austin 7s, but I can tell a pile of rust from a reasonable car and will be able to take some photos. However if it’s too far from there I won’t be able to help as I’ll be there for a family event where my presence is required.

Let me know if it’s of interest and I’ll ask a mate who has one what to look for.

Is it this one Chris ? If so, its in Ayr where JohnW is heading. And it looks like the owner has some very interesting Ferrari's, Porsche Carrera etc.... in his collection The car, if it is this one, looks like it us kept in a dry, and probably humidified, environment so likely to have been well looked after and cherished

There are quite a few Austin 7 owners and experts in our local car club (Borders Vintage Automobile Club) but they are based down in the very east of the Scottish borders so over 100 miles to Ayr unfortunately

I'm living at more than 1000 kms from the car and if some member be able to have a look on this car is a good information for me to take my final decision .

I’ll contact Serge later at the email he has given (it might be best to delete or amend it in case spammers find it).
I will be in Ayr for 4 days so hopefully I will be able get away from family sometime over that period for long enough to meet Mr Robertson. There won’t be any costs involved.

Serge will have to tell me what to look for, as the car Mark has linked to looks nothing like my mate’s Austin 7!

Actually, Geoff is more correct than he deserves to be.

My first car was a ten-year old Austin Seven. But by that time, that’s what they called the mini (1962 , registration number 204 NAL). It looked amazingly like this one:

John, my first car was a 1959 Morris Mini (Myrtle). Loved that car, taught me how to double declutch up and down the box, synchro was non existant. Very happy days. C

Some news from A7 project .
Ongoing discussions with John and the owner of the A7 . John is almost motivated as me.
Many thanks for him . He found a very good solution for me to buy the car . Its note very easy the owner of the car is a little bit rigid ...
I come back to you with some news as soon as possible , but its possible for me to come at Ayr end of january to met John , see the car and make arrangement with the owner .
