4XF1-W

Postby isuzuimark » Thu 21.12.2006, 21:32

I'm wondering if any of you guys have ever swapped in the 4xf1 motor. Thats the engine used in 92 impulses and Asuna sunfires( basically a 93 impulse that was sold in canada). Its pretty much identical to the 4XE1 but its a 1.8 . the alt is at the front and the block is an inch taller. The only catch is you cant run as much boost as the 1.6, unless you get new pistons and rods.

I think someone may have mentioned this some time ago (or maybe my memory is bad) and that the problem was that it was too high to fit under the hood???

That would fit in with what Mark Hughes says in his book. The bodywork was shrink-wrapped (and don't we know it).

What is the height difference? I thought it was about an inch.

There definitely was a thread on the subject but like many old threads it has dropped off. :(

the block is an inch taller, but the valve cover is almost half the height. plus the oil fill is over the intake cam not the exhaust cam which helps a little and the intake manifold is smaller.

Slight bonnet bulge then or re-profiled bonnet? Probably something the other side of the pond chaps could do, Impulses must be rarer than hens teeth here!
