Copper seems to pass the annual roadworthiness test (MOT) over here. I've replaced bits on many cars.

What did you use for fabricating hard brakelines? From the picture, they look like copper tubing. I can't speak for the rules in the UK, but here in the states we are told that copper tubing is not suitable for brakelines. I realize that there were cars in the olden days that used copper tubing in brakelines, but I suspect that they were not generating anywhere the line pressures that modern day cars are generating.

I bought a set of those adjustable top links from Paul Matty the other day and they told me that the short end goes on the inboard side though, for the life of me, I see no reason that they cannot be installed the way you have them.

Project is looking good. Real, real good. Congratulations.

Sincerely,

Algirdas

Hi Algirdas, seamless copper drawn tubing is widely used over here, can't remember off hand what the pressure rating is but it is way beyond braking pressures and it is great to bend and does not corrode.

With regards to the top link point taken !

I looked up the parts catalogue and your right it certainly does go with the small end to the inside so I will be changing them round in due course.

Well spotted  Thanks

B.T.W. did you know the older version goes the other way round :smt104

A bit more done yesterday, fuel tank cleaned up, fitted and all plumbed in, N/S/R suspension coming together now, chassis now fully shimmed and bolted up to body and managed to sort out brake pipes and wiring harness in engine bay.

Yesterday and today consisted of fitting the dash, clocks, steering column etc. It would seem I had forgotten how they came apart because after I fitted the dashboard I then fitted the instrument cluster (the black bit) and then realised that the speedo head/rev counter assy was actually supposed to go in at the same time as the instrument cluster, so it had to come back out :bonk:

Im back on night shift for 5 nights tonight so I wont be doing much until mid next week so I decided to put in the new carpets just so they can take shape a little better than they have been doing. I don't know about you guys but I think the red really sets off the black and grey, I cant wait to see what the grey perforated leather trim looks like in it. The grey carpets had a couple of rusty marks on them, I felt with the black exterior there was just too much grey interior. At least thats my opinion anyway.

I managed to source the red B pillar trims and rear bulkhead carpet from lotus, but for the doors and the speaker box's I got another two L/H floor carpets to make / cover these parts, I hope theres enough :?

I am not so sure about the carpets?

1992 Spec coloured carpets were finished. Are you planning to put red carpet on the bottom of the door cards?

I missed the post with the cam bolt so you should get it Wednesday next week.

Hi Mike, the rear bulkhead carpet did not come off the old shell in one piece and the old grey carpets didn't look so good, given that the some of these grey carpets are n.l.a. I chose to go down the red route, the photos show it as being quite orange but its actually darker and looks very good in the flesh and the door cards and speaker box's will be getting done in red also. This will be the only change from original spec. I understand that the red may not be to everyones taste but I like it and thats what counts! :D

Hi Jamie,

Your right its what you like that counts and it probably does look better in the flesh.

Deciede to get out my bed early this afternoon in the middle of nightshift to try and push things along. My thinking was if I can get the handbrake cables in I can then get the hood stowage compartment trim back in. Only went and over tightened one of the handbrake cables where it goes on to the lever and the threaded part snapped - bu##er. It wasn't even that tight, must be a weak spot, thats set that back a few days, and its a Monday holidy so everyones shut! Should have stayed in bed :asleep:

Decided not to let a handbrake cable get to me so I stayed up a little longer and managed to get the main carpets glued in (as original on the front edge) and the rear bulkhead carpet on, yes no map pocket I hear you say, also n.l.a. - will leave that for a rainy day on the assumption I have enough of the red stuff left. Also managed to fit the new power steering rack and the best bit is it even comes with the overpriced track rod ends  The rack was yet another fatality of previous damage. I see a couple of the rack hoses are also n.l.a. , Im sure there are ways round this (hydraulic hose company). The only thing that keeps niggling me in the back of my mind is the fact that I can't get A-pillar seals  I managed to get the seal carriers though but the seals themselves aren't in good nick and there is no way they are going to come off the carriers in one piece.

Rear suspension waiting for new washers coming from lotus, so thats on hold also. I used to know a guy up here who did vapour blasting (glass beads) I was going to get him to do the aluminium rear hub carriers but turns out he left the area so Im in two minds what to do with them now. Shame because they would have come up like new!

beegee got a few of us a set of A-post seals very recently from South Korea that are for the Kia Elan market.

Better than Lotus. Name me a dealer in the country that is selling A-post seals for less than £300, that are in stock ready to ship as well.
