Tubular Turbo Manifold

Has anyone used the Turbinetec tubular manifold on the Elan yet and had any fitment issues? If so, what unit were you using?

Please explain more Daave, is this an aftermarket part for the izuzu engine ?
JPS M100 was built from bare chassis up to create one off M100 in the mould of JPS Team Lotus

Is this a fit for the Elan though? I understood that Lotus moved the turbo housing from Isuzu's OEM design. If its a direct bolt-on then it might be interesting.

Its a 4EXI manifold, so in theory will fit, but if your changing the blower the downpipe and elbow would have to be custom anyway. It would be better if the flange was more to the right handside of the runners.

I was just wondering if anybody had gone this route, ie different manifold and turbo.

Do you know what they did?. Looks quite centrally mounted to me, but the original the turbo comes out the front, and the TT one is bottom mounted.

Not precisely but the first pics you've shown don't look anything like the last pic. Look at the outlet positoning. Although, you didn't say if your first pics were of the actual Isuzu piece or just a representative pic of their work in general. Some links to review the product would be helpful too.

Yes, the first one is the pic of the actual unit. Like I said the new one is bottom mounted and the original one is front mounted. :-)

It looks like it would be a nightmare to fit, put the turbo into a horrible place, and increase lag. I can't understand what the benefits would be.

Not sure I'd want to mess around with the turbo plumbing to make that fit although I'm sure a talented person could do it. Lotus moved it for a variety of reasons including performance (the closer to the exhaust manifold your turbo is the better). The current manifold run is so short as it is I'm not sure there'd be that much benefit to a tuned manifold. Plus, with the engine bay being so cramped there might not even be room for the bulkier pipes running off the manifold.

I say Jet-Hot coat it :-D

Well the fact that a unit such as Garrett GT28RS could be fitted, and an excuse to hook a free flowing 2.75" downpipe straight off the back of it, bin the cat etc..

It should be much lighter than the cast iron lump, ceramic coating could reduce lag? It will probably crack after a relatively (compared to stock) short time? IIRC the stock turbo and fanimold weigh 37 lbs :o

I'm not sure what my fanimold weighs but I'll bet its more than 37 lbs. :shock: (especially after Thanksgiving)

About their Audi A4 manifold they say: -

Another collector that we have done for the owner of an A4. He wanted to increase performance while replacing its cracked cast manifold. With the new manifold turbo speed-up grew by 500rpm.

Probably means point of initial spool. Though in 4th gear per say, it could take 1 second to get from 3500-4000, so there is a time element in what he's saying too..

The point of the manifold isnt to help with lag, it most probably will increase its, its just the benefit of being able to use a decent sized blower, and increase the VE of the engine, as the original manifold looks like it would be a restriction above 300bhp IMO. It all helps with drawing heat away from the head too.

Looking at some other pics, I don't think I would fit unless you flip the turbo round 180 degrees (as long as it doesnt hit the block)

Pretty sure the Shark still uses original manifold, & that produces 375bhp, without the NOS !

I believe the consensus is that a 'tuned-length' manifold will help with top end power whereas a the shortest possible manifold will help with low-end response? The 500 RPM quote was courtesy of Google's translator :lol: and I would think it refers to the RPM at which the boost gauge starts to respond? A ball-bearing turbo apparently gives a similarly early level of response.

We need to work on one of or Canadian Elanoraks to pay a visit :twisted: :poke:
