Phil,

Run ElanScan - you'll be able to diagnose a stuck thermostat and all sorts of other things.

Just got round to fitting my new toy last night.

Tried it on the lowest settings for a while to let the car "get used" to more boost again and to make sure that everything still works and slowly made my way up the programmes.

Then......... bloody hell   ...... the thing shifts. Lovley piece of engineering, the remote looks right at place in the car.

Only one problem, i think i`ve got the dreaded boost creep, on the top program it goes like a train and then i get the fuel cut out. I have a larger bore exhaust so i`m not really suprised.

Ah well, a project for the winter months, removing and porting the wastegate. Bearing in mind that it had been stuck open for a few months it could probably do with a bit of a refurb anyway.

Can`t wait to get it done though :)

Hmmm or i have a FCD sat in the garage..............

Joking, just joking really, i can`t afford an engine rebuild

Good going Russ - sounds like you've made major progress since the "plumbing diagram" episode a while back.

I predict you'll get quite attached to the number 7!

Anyway well done for getting this far. Suppose I'd better get my ar$e in gear with the porting write-up.

Why do you need a passenger? What is wrong with logging the data and analysing it later?

The only advantage i can think of is that the passenger would be in a better position to compare the acuracy of the boost guage to the elanscan data in real time........

Nope. Only one of them round here and that's me. :-D

Mine goes:
0-7 S2 mode (closed loop using the O2 sensor - 1499)
8-F SE mode (using the CO potentiometer - 9930)

0 & 8 Garage Mode (0.4bar max)
1 & 9 Stock
2 & A Kilimanjaro (0.8bar max)
3 & B Everest (0.9bar max)
4 & C Elysium (0.95bar max)
5 & D Kilimanjaro (0.8bar max)
6 & E Everest (0.9bar max)
7 & F Elysium (0.95bar max)

It's handy to have the open loop control to fall back on in case my O2 sensor fails, but I much prefer closed loop because in my case it's about 1/3 more economical.

I'm afraid I lost the ElanChips.com domain; I forgot to re-register it and someone (Iouri Prokhorov of Imperium) is squatting it now (he's not getting a penny out of me). I've reverted the site to http://elanchips.appee.com/. I don't have to re-register that one so it should be safe.

I thought there were now regs which outlawed domain-squatting?

The trouble is I did let it lapse and its not as if he hasn't got a page up, generic crap though it is. Companies chase these things down I have better things to spend my time on.

Alan,
Just checked the new link to your MountainChips site which has been put in the banner. Excellent idea to make a hot link to the site.

Shame somebody grabbed your old URL, but the shortcut takes people to your new site no problem. Just for fun I tried "Mountain chips" in Google and found the link to http://elanchips.appee.com/ with no problem; your old http://elanchips.com/ URL didn't get a mention.

One thing - on the "performance data" page, all your graphs are still linked to the old site and consequently don't show up. You need to change the targets to include the ".appee " between "http://elanchips" and ".com/ ". Then they show up fine.

Useful way you've chosen to present the data on the graphs, by the way. The way you've plotted the incremental gains of the V5 over the v4.2 clearly shows the benefit, and the crossplot of a:f vs delta power really shows up the errors in the dyno measurements. The first map8 & map9 look over-optimistic, but the others form a pretty amazingly good trend.

Thanks for the heads-up on the bad links - I'll sort it now.

I had a suspicion the appee site might well be responsible for nicking the domain themselves - I registered it through them in the first place and so they'll have known all about it. Sure enough a whois query reveals the same exactly the same registration details now shown by ElanChips.com. Nice business model they've got there

Alan,

I use 1and1.co.uk to host my domains, cost £2 a year IIRC and they automatically renew it every 2 years, just use their own admin tools to point it wherever you like, also has email forwarding thrown in.

Hi Alan. The yellow M100 I just bought has an Everest v4.2 1499 chip. I'd like to upgrade to an Everest v4.5 1499. I read what to do at http://elanchips.appee.com/product.php?prodid=11 and it says "I will not supply this update unless you have purchased a kit with an earlier version from me in the past." Since I, personally, didn't buy it may I upgrade anyway? I don't mind sending in the v4.2 chip as proof, as I can just run off the factory-spec ECU in the interim.

About to spring for a switcher but....

Postby Joe » Tue 25.03.2008, 22:07

Daft question time,

I was looking through the Prom guide and went to look at my VIN number to find out what I have and my 13th digit is 6 which is not an option in the list.

Am I being thick? (again)

My car is a 1994 registered Elan SE
Currently Elan-less and on the lookout for a good one.

Joe,

Just build your interface, plug it in and read the PROM ID.
