idle problem

not to sure if anybody else has had this problem but since fitting my new exhaust ive found the engine tends to stall now and again. it think it depends which mood its in! Sometimes the revs drop below 1000rpm and then its picks up again to 1000...strange

Have you got an exhaust gas analyser?  You could try and set the CO pot on the ECU to the right value, which may have changed with the new exhaust.  Also, the new exhaust will require a new position for the Idle Air Control valve (IAC) which the ECU will have to learn.  Try disconnecting the battery and reconnecting after a short wait to make the ECU re-learn the position immediately.<br><br>Also, setting the timing up properly won't hurt.<br><br>So, for a simple problem you suddenly need an exhaust gas analyser, timing strobe light, 13mm spanner, 13mm socket with extensions, a wheel brace, ramps/axle stands etc etc etc.  Doesn't seem fair does it?  OK well just try no 2 first and see what happens  ;D

How did you get on with this?
My Elan does the same occasionally, but I haven't managed to establish any particular pattern to the stalling. Most of the time it is fine, but every now and then when idling, the revs drop and it stalls.

Not a major problem, but irritating all the same!
