Headlamp Lift?

Postby Coupeboy » Mon 17.03.2008, 13:29

Could somebody advise how to lift the headlamps to change a bulb or if the motors fail? Thanks

Open your bonnet. Behind each light pod you will find a plastic dial.
Turn 'em.

Just twist the knurled knob on top of the motor.

I find that it's best to only open them half way when changing bulbs.
Striking fear into the hearts of duplicate posts everywhere...! :P

Thanks for a quick response chaps - I wondered what the knurled Knobs were for as turning them didn't seem to do anything - most be a lot of turns to open the lights!

I find it much easier to just pop them up as per normal. If you then remove one of the fuses C5 or C6 they will stay up when you switch them off :D
Careful when you put the fuse back in as they immediately go back down  so be sure to clear all tools etc away first :P

Be careful inserting (and removing) fuses under load. If you've inadvertantly introduced a fault at the other end, you're going to get your fingers burnt and a bit of a scare!

Best to wind them up with the knurled knob! :D

Easyer to pop them up as normal and the undo the wire loom above the pod lift motor then turn the head lights back off

BTW the eayest way to change bulb is to remove the head light lens if the screws haven`t rusted solid

OK - managed to play with the headlight pods. I removed both sides for interest - quick undo of a nyloc holding the front of the actuating mechanism to the pod and with the two large hinge nuts removed off the pods come. Dead easy to change bulbs (and renew headlight in my case) in this position. Realigned the pods for even panel gaps and just need to get headlight aim adjusted now - why weren't the pods aligned nicely at the factory? Noticed that the wiring to the headlights was looking quite ropey (nicks through to the core in some places) so reshrouded it in insulation tape and routed it nicely with tiewraps so it doesn't get trapped and caught when the pods go up and down. You might want to check yours!

They probably were. It's amazing what 17 years will do to panel alignment. I had to tweak Smaug's as well. :-D
