The function is there on mine - TomTom One Classic. Have you plugged your TomTom into your PC and allowed TomTom Home to upgrade your firmware recently. When the TomTom One 3rd edition was brought out, originally this function had been taken away, however later updates have added it back.

If you cannot get this to work, there is an application called TomTom Heaven Xplorer that hacks your TomTom to allow you to change the symbol. Use it at your own risk, I have not used it and am not recommending it.

Now all you TT owners are together, what about recommendations? Not for me I hasten to add as I still prefer the thrill of map reading and driving by instinct and the sun, however warnings about dangerous roads highlighted by the presence of speed cameras would be useful: It's for my daughter who managed to get to Clevedon (South of Bristol) when returning home (North of Bristol) from the centre of Bristol.

Well, for what it's worth - i use a map! (I also have satnav on my laptop which runs in MS Autoroute - it gives whole globe cover, so is useful to me, but probably not for your daughter )

TomTom is pretty easy to use - i would say idiot-proof, but i'm sure it could still be possible to get lost, Angie uses a TomTom One V3 and hasn't got lost yet.

One limitation is the memory size - the basic unit comes with UK/ROI mapping in a 1Mb internal memory, or you can pay a bit more for a 2Mb Western Europe version.

With the older TT1, the map info was on a SD card, so it was easy to 'upgrade' the stored maps to Europe, USA etc, with the current ones, you can't (unless you hack the memory system!).

The actual unit connects easily to a PC to download latest traffic camera etc info.



At work we use Navman & Garmin, but i prefer the TomToms ease of use.

I've installed and used the tomtomheaven program linked here. So far, no problems. Actually, the link takes you to a page of a long thread about this. You have to go to the previous page in the thread to find the link to the tomtomheaven application. Once you download and intall it, it's pretty easy.

can really recommend the TT 930 Traffic. The IQ routes on 200+ mile journeys has only been 2-3 minutes out on the eta. Also the traffic reports work well ignore at your peril! The Tom Tom has so much back up and downlaodables as well and is very customisable. Also its an MP3 player with a FM link to your car radio etc etc. Just take a look at the spec yourself and the reviews which i'm sure you'd do anyway!!

I've made a new car symbol of my own car. I thought it would look a little better to have a perspective from just above and behind, so that it more closely matches the perspective of the road as shown on the TT. Anyway, here's what it looks like (I appologize for the quality of the pic. My son has my camera, so I had to use my cell phone), both installed, and as it is saved on my computer (in case anybody wants to use it. Just right click on it to save it to your computer, then use you software to convert it to .bmp.).
