Hi Jamie

Paint work is looking good, I have picked up one small stone chip on the side of the bonnet

According to the AA Spalding is only 70 Miles from Donington, So if I end up in the disco then no probs collecting it, that is if the LEC postal sevice has not got it delivered to you first. I know a bonnet fits in the back with plenty of space all the way round, so a clam should go in.

Hi Jamie,

Did it need a bonnet?
I thought the damage was to the pasenger side A post area sill and scuttle? I fitted to JUF's a brand new bonnet (from Lotus) in 1999.

Areas damaged were - N/S sill, N/S Inner steel structure, N/S floor, N/S A panel, N/S A-pillar, N/S door, Front clam, Bonnet, N/S pod, Bent chassis, Damaged rack, Damaged prongeron, Intercooler and duct, Bend driveshaft, Front Bumper, N/S/F indicator, Windscreen, etc

The only reason I know all that was because it was never sorted properly by the prevous owner :smt013

Just bodged !

Keep up the good work

Hired a transit van on thursday, took me 10 hours to get to Spalding (roadworks) and 9 hours to get home (clear roads) 1027 miles (round trip) 23 hours from when I left the house until I got back! A least I have a good clam and bonnet now. Not quite sure when I'm going to get back into the Elan because I've got so much to do about about the house and the building warrant expires soon for the garage and its not finished yet. Too much on and not enough time, a least I've got the parts to push the car on now :D

Im afraid I haven't touched the car, just finished rendering the garage, decorating the kitchen and I'm now fitting a new oil central heating boiler to the house and re-jigging all the pipes in the loft before the winter comes not to mention stain the facia's, soffits and the huge decking we have.

Probably not what you wanted to hear, me neither !

Have most of the parts to finish the Elan off, all I need to find is the time.

Mind you while it sits in the garage, the milage remains low and its condition remains spotless !!

Had a wee dabble at the doors the last couple of nights, trial fit prior to stripping and painting the doors, was getting on great until I noticed pressed steel part of the drivers upper hinge is bent, so a call to the local lotus dealer is in order to see if its still available along with a couple door striker shims
Other than that, the doors open and shut sweet and fit better than I expected considering they have never been on that shell before.

Small progress but its a start to a downhill finish.

Have decided to do a little at a time this time round so I don't get annoyed with the sheer scale of things !

O.K. guys, so things are not progressing as planned !

Due to circumstances beyond my control, I no longer have access to an all singing and dancing low bake oven.

Needless to say, this has put the brakes on my plans for finishing the Elan soon.

Getting someone else to finish the paint is not an option in my book.

But not to worry ! ...................I've just embarked on a new project !!!

Project codename : spraybooth !

Anyway, after much thought and measuring I've started building a low bake spray booth in my garage, big enough to house 1x Lotus Elan

Sadly a sheet of polythene down the middle of the garage just won't cut it.

The Elans paint job is paramount as far as I'm concerned, so I won't be cutting corners !

Will keep you updated, reckon it should take me about 2-3 months to complete.

Great that this thread has come up again and outstanding work and persistence. I'm going through it very carefully as this may be what I will find myself doing.
