mouse noise

Hi, has anyone ever experienced a mouse like squeak from their power steering pump ? It seems to stop once warmed up. The car was in the garage for some time while I fitted a new steering rack and did many other jobs but Im sure it did not make that noise before. Any thoughts ?

Does the noise occur when the steering is fully locked left or right if so I think it's normal, not quite a squeak but definitely a hiss .This is because the power steering system is regulated and works more when the wheels are fully locked left or right .It's something to do with a pressure valve which pushes more fluid out when the power steering system is fully locked at least that's how I think it works

No this is not the normal hiss, a definite squeak, squeak, goes if you apply a little steering wheel movement. I'm pretty sure it must be a bearing in the pump now. started car the other night it was there, stopped car jacked up removed belt to pump re started car, no mouse. Unfortunately when I put belt back on still no squeak ! so not really proved anything. Started car again today, squeak has returned. It's not easy to trace where it's coming from, pipe on ear was no help. All goes silent after a few miles so I'm hoping no to serious, serious things normally get louder the longer you put up with them !

If the belt was not tensioned correctly it might have had points of slippage which could produce you sound. By removing, reinstalling and re-trensioning the belt, maybe you solved your problem. If the belt isn't fairly new, it could also have hard spots along the grooves and they might cause a noise. Belt dressing or a new belt will confirm if it is the belt making the noise.

I'm also having a loud squeaking most of the time right when I start up that goes away after only about 15 seconds or so (seems much longer while the painful squeaking is going on). I'm going to start by spraying some belt dressing on the belt and see if that cures it.

Its a new belt, correct tension and not a belt squeal more a rhythmic squeak, squeak, squeak that changes speed with engine RPM. Im pretty sure it's a bearing in the pump.
