My first ever FaceBook post from 2001!
"In hindsight I should have posted my FaceBook status as: "I've blown the head gasket on my 1987 XR3i" rather than "I've just buggered a 14 year old escort".
The police still haven't seen the funny side, my laptop's been confiscated and the wife has gone off to her mother's."

:goodposting: :-D

You could have had problems with various special interest groups, or even a whole country, if you had been driving a Ranger, a Panda, or an Enzo

Couldn't help but smile at the end of two days hard and hot work on my Elan. :D

Jobs carried out.

1. Replaced the cr***y late 90's cd/tuner head unit with a shiny new Pioneer CD/tuner/front aux/USB/Bluetooth jobby. Half hour job turned into three hours because there wasn't an ISO connector!! (There is now!) The speaker leads are really helpfully colour coded (NOT) being all the same colour(Black/Black-white)!! :banghead:
A Duracell 1.5v battery sorted that out.

2. Replaced the original Lotus rear speakers with a pair of new(ish) 2-way Alpine 51/4's which I've had for years and were still in their box.

3. Removed the door card from the driver's door. Never done this before, so did it with a little trepidation. A few jobs need to be done in here. Carefully following the Wiki instructions I eventually removed the card. :wtf: who the hell has been in here before me, what a bl**dy mess! Plastic panels just RIPPED OFF and screwed back with various screws , half the original fixings missing, speaker not fixed properly. I know for a fact the previous owner didn't do this himself, it must have been the garage he used. Numpties!!

4. Replaced the lotus front speaker with a Juice 4 inch 3-way speaker (sounds nice!).

5. Sorted out a window rattle that's been there since I bought the car. Just a dead simple adjustment phew, everything else fine. Bet it was the Numpties who left it rattling like that!

6. Fitted new door lock.

7. Sorted out the mess the Numpties had left. :chair: And put everything back together.

8. Repeat all the above on the passenger door. The Numpties had obviously never been in there, it was absolutely pristine. From start to finish this door took around two hours to complete.

9. Finally, I replaced the old boot lock with a new one. (All the external locks now replaced by brand new ones. Doesn't half improve the look)

I fixed the elbow cards back on with Heavy Duty Velcro. The replacement door carpets (I had some good second hand ones, good job too!) I fixed on with Wickes double sided carpet tape. Both worked very well. No qualms about the Velcro but I'll wait and see if the tape lasts.

So, I'm extremely hot, I'm dog tired but I'm happy and smiling. :-)

Nipped into Thornbury and parked by the carpark entrance. At the other side of the entrance was a rather nice dark blue metallic XK8 convertible. Walking back to the car, I noticed two groups of people walking into the carpark craning their necks at one of them. Jags, common as muck! :D

If that article were written by a guy, he would have to turn in his man-card immediately…however, I see that it was written by two women :smt061 :smt061

I though CNN was a partner with Caterham F1. I guess everyone that knows anything is on holiday.
