Replacement Shift Cable Kit for ALL versions

Postby Brit-Car-Nut » Sat 16.11.2013, 13:58

I have been working on redesigning a replacement Shift Cable Kit since the AB Cables disappeared and the Bob B. cables ceased.

5 members have purchased kits so far and at least one has had them installed with a favorable review.

I don't want to try to run a Group Buy since I can usually supply 5 kits at a time but can quickly get more cables for a heavier demand.

I pre-assemble all of the parts and I have a jig I use to adjust everything to get them close and then I install them on the test car to get them closer.

You will receive fully assembled cables, so you don't have to figure out where all the bits and pieces go.

Take a look here if you are interested: viewtopic.php?f=48&t=22461#p286095

They are similar to Bob B.'s concept but I found a way to improve the angular binding solutions and have used materials that are less likely to corrode due to galvanic dissimilarities.

I have also prepared a web site to use as a guide for installation.

If anyone is interested, please contact me via EMAIL (envelope icon under my avatar) as we all have limits in PM quantities.

I will have FIVE more kits available to ship by Nov. 22. I am just waiting for the adapter parts to be anodized and time to pre-assemble everything.

Fortunately I have had the AB cables installed for some time now (after the stock ones broke - as per usual) and have had no issues at all. My understanding was that BB's version had some slight improvements over the AB version. Kinda makes sense to me given the iterative nature of the creator's initials (AB-BB) :-D Its a product that we need as anyone still with the stock cables will need to replace them at some point. And preferably not with another set of stock cables (if you can still find them).

Looking forward to the "CB" version. :-D

I'm not in need of cables at the moment, so please give others who need them or want them promptly priority over me. If you reach the point where you need a non-urgent person to supply to complete a batch, please send me a pm and I shall buy.

Or even better would be the supply of the cables together with the short shift kit that is under development.

Please, if anyone needs cables, let me know. The short shift project will go quicker with a little cash flow.

Same here..........otherwise double shipping and having the cables boxed and put aside until the short shift kit is ready.

This is to bump the listing.

A lot of people expressed their desire to buy my cables and some said they had to wait until the Short-Shift Kit was available, but it is now many months since and not too many have purchased.

I funded the production with credit cards, so the charges are adding up and the price will have to be raised to cover those ever increasing costs.

Please give this some thought. A LOT of effort and money went into theses kits.

The best place to find the details on the cables is here: viewtopic.php?f=48&t=22461

The best place to find the details on the Short-Shift Kit is here: viewtopic.php?f=48&t=22769

When the bulk purchase of cables runs out, I will be forced to order "as needed" so the quantity discount disappears and the price for the cables will have to increase.

Thank you to everyone that did buy a set of Cables and/or a Short-Shift Kit.

To anyone hesitating over this kit and the short shift, take a look at SJS prices for stock gear(shift) cables. In addition, I have just fitted BCN's kit and the quality and engineering is far far better than stock.

The short shift also helps the overall gear change quality and mine is now as a sports car should be.

I would have no hesitation in recommending both the cables and the short shift. It's the proverbial no-brainer.

Thanks for all your efforts BCN.

NEW, BETTER than OEM, Shift Cable kit

Postby Brit-Car-Nut » Wed 18.06.2014, 18:11

I hope this is a correct location for this listing as a lot of people don't know to find the original posts about both of theses kits in the Transmission and Clutch section:

For details about the Shift Cable Kit, go here: viewtopic.php?f=48&t=22461

There is also a GROUP BUY posting to try to get several buyers together to share the postage costs here: viewtopic.php?f=85&t=23375

A Link to my website that has installation instructions with pictures and procedural suggestions is also provided when a kit is purchased.

Please make comments or ask questions under the other posting. That way all details will be available to everyone.

Its not but I've moved it to the correct one. And, since you've already have a topic started on this item I've merged these posts into the existing one (although you may want to open a new topic on the short shift kit itself). Since its not an OEM part nor one that's an exact replica it belongs in the "Products" section where custom, upgraded or just plain "different" items can be listed. This is an upgraded version of the OEM part (almost any replacement would be an upgraded version of the OEM part). The new categories may take some time to get used to but they will hopefully make it easier for folks to find what they're looking for.

Any idea if these cables are the same as the Impulse RS turbo? As its the same engine/trans I thought they could be, the gearbox ends look the same. Several on the Isuzu forum are looking for sets, including me.
Thanks
