Best treatment for seals?

Postby tigerdog » Wed 02.07.2014, 18:13

I've been using silicone grease on hood and door seals and it seems to do an OK job of keeping things flexible. We just ended up with a BMW Z3 as a daily runabout and BMW forums recommend somethig called "Gummi Pflege". This sounds like a pneumonia symptom but appears to swell the rubber a bit while keeping it flexible.

What's the consensus for the best conditioner for these rubbery bits?

Apart from clubbing them? Oh OK, I will now go to hell.

Try the Hamburg S&M clubs' favourite.

I'd have though Vasoline would not be a good idea, being petroleum based.

The vast numbers of good reviews for it make me want to give it a try too. And go back in time and start applying it in 1991

Sorry to be ignorant, but given the differences between US English and English English, are Vasoline and Vaseline actually the same thing?

+1 for silicone grease, been using it on car seals for years.

Gummi is also slang for condom in German, which seem surprisingly apt considering the road skills of most BMW drivers. :D

Vaseline is an American lubricant.

Vaseline is an English lubricant.

Vasolene is a blend of amino acids, and antioxidants to support the endothelial system of the body for artery, vein and capillary health.

Lubrication and improved blood flow....
