Hi All,

I forgot to post this when I first saw the "For Sale" board, but it appears that Paul Matty is shutting up shop and selling his garage or rather the land as a "Development Opportunity".

I can't find any details on the internet at this time but I'll get the details next time I pass unless they are posted in the mean time.

Apologies if this is not the case but there is nothing else there that could be "For Sale" except for the cars and parts of course!

I spotted the for sale sign last night....thought it was the house, but a quick Google gives you this link

Hi all,
I had a long conversation with Paul Mattys wife. She told me the place is up for sale, but it is not certain as to what will happen. I think to sell it as a going concern is what would be ideal for her, or to move to a smaller unit, or at the worse, to sell the land.
She said she did,nt expect anything to happen in the near future and was uncertain as to if Paul could just walk away. The reason for the decision is that Paul is at the age were he is finding increasingly difficult to put the time into the business that is required. Also the staff they have working there are at an age were retirement is on the cards and they will be difficult to replace.

When someone such as Paul gets to the point where he inevitably needs to scale down or stop altogether it is both a great shame, but also a very well deserved rest that hopefully awaits. It must be very hard to sustain a business like that if the key staff also wish to retire as there is no one to hand the business on to. I was speaking to a good friend of mine this evening (he owns a Plus 2) who was also aware and essentially said the same thing. Also hinted that SJS might be looking at the business side of things, although that may just be hearsay. My friend said 'Paul knows where to get things done' and I suspect this reflects the real quality of the business - relationships with other companies brought together to deliver a renowned service.

Peter Smith Sport Cars in Hatton Derbys has already pretty much packed up - I only found out last week when I phoned to try to get a hall-effect sensor. The lady who answered the phone responded to my request to be put through to the parts department by saying that they only sell cars now.

Peter Smith went bust a few years ago. I remember someone brought all their stock of Lotus spares and put them on ebay at absorbent prices, many of which were available at the time on the attersales as very low prices which probably explained why they wee still in stock in the first place.
