Newbie saying hello from Glasgow

Hi All,

Just joined the forum. I am on the hunt for my first Lotus. Always been a fan of the Elan from the moment my old neighbour bought a brand new S2. I remember saying to myself, im going to buy one of those some day and hence that day has arrived.

I'm planning on putting a post up in the wanted section but will post here also. I'm on the hunt for a well sorted car with great bodywork. As much as i am a car enthusiast, I prefer to buy a car that has had all the bad jobs done. I would like a car between the 5-6k mark which i think is a good starting point for an Elan.

I'm based in Glasgow so if i can find one as close to me, even better.

Welcome to LEC!. Not many Elans available up here these days, just a matter of keeping a look out every day in the usual places. There is a SE with for sale very close to me, not advertised other than a For Sale sign on it, Pacific blue, but looks like it needs some TLC, I have not spoken to the owner but if you are interested PM me and I will tell you where about in Fife it is sitting if you want.

Welcome Gee. Have a quick look at our Buyer's Guide and associated topics here, then ask a couple of local owners (e.g. the one who has already replied to you! ) to see if they don't mind showing you round their cars. Lots are happy to help.
Pacific Blue is the second most popular colour after Calypso Pink (er, sorry I mean RED!), but it has it's faults. Moisture gets under the lacquer and it peels like a bad skin complaint! I have 2 PB Elans and I love them but they are both in desperate need of full resprays.
Still, what 20+ year old car DOES have immaculate bodywork? At least the body doesn't rust - just the bits underneath it that nobody ever pays attention to.

If you find one locally (unlikely) I can give it a quick once over. I bought mine from Anniesland Trade Centre 12 yrs ago and traded it in at Scottish Motor Services last autumn, its now just been bought by another forum newbie.

Might be going to Manchester to see one at the weekend though. If anyone around the Glasgow area is around tomorrow or Saturday where I could come and see their car and give me some pointers just let me know.

If you are heading down to Manchester then I would seriously consider dropping in to see Dico's car. you would be hard pressed to find a better one from what I hear and looking at the piccy's it does look well sorted. If I hadn't already got one I would certainly be interested, some great mods on it as well

There are non that I know of in Glasgow. Mine has gone. Steve has moved to Aboyne. Prestwick Dave not been around a while. and Alans Ribena mobile was bought sold & trashed by a spiv. Rambo sometimes pops up from sheep shagging Pebbles to civilisation.

I think that the only reason it hasn't already sold is because a) his original post didn't contain enough details and b) his thread got "banterised" (of COURSE it's a "real" word!). I believe he has since been back to address "a)", and with the number and quality of upgrades, it would be a VERY good one to seriously consider.

I recently enquired about the Beast and at that time it was not on the road and the seller seemed undecided as to whether they still wanted to sell.
It is unclear from their subsequent posts what the current selling position is.
I have now been looking for 6 months for an Elan and in the past have never certainly never had so much trouble finding a suitable vehicle to purchase.
I did have two very promising cars lined up to view within 150 miles however it looks like the sellers have changed their minds. Being located in Northumberland there is nothing local at all and I am not keen of travelling hundreds of miles to view vehicles. I am on the cusp of giving up the ghost all together and buying a different make and model classic car. Best of luck with your search. cheers. Dave.

Thanks for the offer but i bought a car a few months back now. Do you live in Carmunnock by any chance? I just live at the Cathkin end of the Cathkin Braes road and was driving through Carmunnock the other day and spotted what looked like a red Elan in a drive way?
