In case somebody follows, here's an update:

HJ,
Keep posting. It's interesting, and your photos are great. However, please don't expect many replies from me, because:
a) I have no hope of contributing anything useful, as what you are doing is far too advanced for my DIY skills
b) I am afraid that if I have too much contact with you, my Elan might catch some of the terrible diseases that your one has caught recently
c) This thread is fascinating, but I'm always afraid to look - the project creep involved is a bit like looking at a train smash in slow motion :smt077

Well done for all the complex procedures you have been doing, and good luck with getting your Elan fully healthy.

John

28degrees, hot and sunny in Laos! at 0930 in the morning :D

$1 for a bottle of Lao Loa (rice wine vodka) - No hangover..... still havent seen Clemo this morning though - left him in the pub when I called it a night at 0100 ~what could possibly go wrong????

I have a bike which may or may not get very far, but looks okay (by Indochina standards) - only 1420 miles to go 8)
Dave

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?

What's actually making you smile Dave ? The fact that rice wine vodka is cheap as chips or the fact you haven't seen Clemo since the early hours

PS Hope they don't do early morning breathalyser checks in Indonesia. I suspect your breath will melt the bags :P

Ummm, may want to brush up on your geography Rambo, Laos is a country North of Cambodia and Vietnam :-D , Indonesia is a long way away, in relative terms, and is a Muslim country where rice wine would get you in some deep doo doo
But what really made me smile was the reference to the temperature, sure it's warm, but tell us the humidity, which is what killed me in my 10 years in South east Asia. Five showers a day, step outside and within 10 minutes you're soaking wet again :drunk:

Actually I typed in Indochina. My spellcheck came up with Indonesia

But my fault for not checking what I'd typed before I submitted the post

Yep, that reminds me of a Top Gear episode where they put a garden statue in an Elan to prove that English roadsters are more convenient than 90's hot hatchbacks
