Hi!

I am thrilled to read about this kit, as the cables on my car need replacement. Is the kit still available? Would you be able to ship to Austria?

I love this forum. Such a great community! :-)

Cheers!

Yes it is and get the short shift kit with it. Well worth the little extra. Read the relevant thread for shipping costs to Europe.

Last 6 sets of cables are ready.

I don't know if I will be making any more after those are gone. Ask if you need a set.

I don't believe that LEC has ever been, or will ever be, considered to be "Capitalist"....

...If anything, it is Altruism at the basest level, and always has been...

The site was founded many years ago by a man who paid all hosting fees out of his own pocket, and this continued until "the management" insisted that he should desist, and found another way of funding it (through a LEC 'kitty')...

...no-one has ever been asked for as much as a penny towards any costs, and there is no intention to ever ask people for a 'membership fee' or 'subscription' for anything.

The kitty thrives through voluntary donations, and much of the money (which isn't a huge amount anyway) has come from 'rounding up' of prices in various Group Buys over the years - ie, for every unit sold, a few pence would be passed to the kitty.

But also, there have been some substantial personal donations from people who have felt that they have made a personal gain from the community.

SO WHERE IS THE CAPITALISM THAT WE ARE BEING ACUSED OF ????

Some members are (either openly, or hidden) making a few quid - and that is the way of the world - get over it.

If you don't like the price, don't buy the goods - no-one is forcing anyone to do so.

As an example, many members actually make a loss on stuff they sell, whilst others are running a thinly-veiled business, sometimes even at the insistance that they are the ones 'helping' out the rest.

I think I know where most members on here fit into the above categories, and they all manage to sleep at night.

I have no problem with someone making a fair (or even a huge) profit from anything they provide, as long as the pricing is transparrent, there is never going to be an issue.

A perfect example of this is Jeemy, who has openly stated (and it could have been worked out with a paper and pencil for those who grew up before calulators existed), all prices from his Hub Group Buy at all stages..... He managed to make a couple of quid on each set, and used that to part-fund the ones for his own car - where's the problem in that? It's not like the bloke has gone for a week in the Seychelles on your hard-earned savings is it?

I believe that your "tongue in cheek" jibe was probably aimed at certain people, but is doesn't come across like that to me, and I'm unhappy to see it (Even though I stand by my basic principle that you are entitled to Freedom of Speach).

....and to be honest, it appears you feel that Jaimie has pi$$ed on the parade by providing something (which may be better, may be worse, but is currently available) as an alternative to something else still in development...

...is this really any different than the shift cables you developed (as an undoubted improvement, don't get me wrong) to others which were available?

As I say, LEC isn't Capitalist - but some members obviously ARE.

I apologise for my poor wording of my observations. I meant no harm to LEC. I agree that donations were never requested, it is the obligation of each member to weigh the value of their PROFIT and contribute as they saw fit.

I have a hard time calculating PROFIT when an item being provided is labor intensive and the sale price doesn't even cover the cost of the parts contained in the kit.

Every one should be aware that unlike the previous provider, I have paid all of my suppliers when I ordered the parts to make these kits. I didn't stiff anyone supplying me and I made sure the kits got out to the buyers within the promised two day lead time that was necessary so I could pre-install everything to make sure they would have no trouble with the kit.

I just can not continue to underwrite the losses for the items I have offered. The price I offered was based on an expected number of buyers as a guide to "Break Even" after I reached the number of those stating their intention to buy the items.

My planned "donation" to LEC was the reduced price and my FREE labor. I guess that because the sale price was so high and Bob B. sold his (over 2 years ago) for a little bit less, everyone figured I was making a killing? Sorry to ruin your dreams, I am still quite short on recovering the initial outlay and that goes up every time I have to buy more actual core cables. What started off as an $8,000 investment is now even higher since I have restocked the basic cables multiple times.

After a significan amount of time, the theoritical buyers never appeared and I have been shouldering the component parts manufacturing costs which I just can not continue to do.

Each cable kit has been sold at a price well below their actual cost to me, so I have decided to use up the parts on hand and then maybe offer them on eBay or a private web site so I at least break even.

If that means I haven't been altruistic, then I guess I will never know the meaning of the word. If my wanting to at least break even in a reasonable amount of time is capitalism, then I am a capitalist for sure.

Once the current stocks of core cables is gone, I will store the excess "small" components and take a break from being such a capitalist pig.

I have no proble with anyone wishing to break even, or gain a profit (we all have to eat!).

The problem I have is when LEC is acused of being Capitalist.

If individual members wish to make a profit, then so be it - but it isn't LEC!

One set of cables still available right now for the original price as posted if anyone is looking. I will be ordering much smaller quantities of cables from now on, so the price will go up to reflect the higher inbound shipping price.

Of course it is up to the individual to make a decision on an upgrade but these cables and short shift kit are top quality and transform the shift action and obviously improve reliability :D
Totally recommended

I have enough parts to make another 3 sets of shift cables and Short-Shift Kits if anyone is interested.

I also have a few Short-Shift Kits to fit the earlier Bob B. metric cables kits as well.
