Postby clemo » Thu 28.09.2017, 17:05

A question asked by Tony that we don't know the answer to , though we think it is Red or BRG ..
There is only one way to find out .

POLL

What colour is your elan .
If you have a later colour not listed here please use the part 2 poll .

Thank you .

Cheers rip
I've amended it and taken out paint codes as it would have needed 3 polls to fit them all in .

though now i cant get part 2 to sit under part one in the listings ..

Should be in 2 sections now .
Couldn't fit all the wiki paint codes in so now yellow will be just yellow rater than the 2 paint options of ICI or DUPONT .

I have recently received my Certificate of Provenance from Lotus Cars (Andy Graham), and in the attached letter has stated that there were a total
45 cars in Silk Red. Where are they now??

Hope that helps with some statistics.

I've got two blacks - can I vote twice ??!!

Apparently there were only 13 SE blacks made ? Seems a low number but maybe not fashionable in the early 90's ?

Apparently once you've voted you don't get offered another go - bit of a bugger as I've got 2 Pacific Blue SE's.. :banghead:
Black was used on 8 of the first 10 prototype M100's, but wasn't offered on production cars until the switch from ICI to Du Pont paint in June 91.

I'm pretty sure that Calypso Red will be most popular - most of the press cars tested and shown in magazine road tests were Collapso and think that influenced early buyers.
When I went looking for an early SE in 1995 I looked at 5 Collapso, I White, 1 Silver - no Norfolk Mustard on the market at the time so I bought a private sale Collapso SE.
Great car, did 100k miles in it but back end turned pink in the south of France sunshine. Pat Thomas at Kelvedon Motors said 'they all fade but that's the worst I've seen"
I asked what I could do about it and Pat said "Buy a blue one next time" .. So next time I did.

My Pacific Blue 'L' reg SE was supplied direct from Lotus to Elf Oil Co in December 93 so thought it may be worth seeing what Andy Graham knew about it - for a fee.

His letter didn't tell me much about my car that I didn't know but did tell me "Pacific Blue was the 4th most popular colour of the 10 different colours manufactured".
In the UK 1992 model year (August 91 to end of production July '92) they made 442 SE's and 52 were in Pacific Blue.

Was surprised at that as being a metallic it cost an extra £680 that put the SE over £21,000. I've always preferred Norfolk Mustard, people will see you coming, ... and it didn't cost extra.

Don't see many British Racing Green in East Anglia - probably been written off as they blend into the greenery and people don't see them coming, though there were a few at Castle Combe so it must be a regional thing.
I do see a few Norfolk Mustard cars, particularly in ... er ... Norfolk ..

It said up to 5 options so OK for multiple cars of different colours but doesn't work for 2, or more, of the same colour..

The poll results to date are no way representative of actual facts :?

Collapso red is by far the most popular colour with blue coming a close 2nd (as witnessed in the Donington era)

What I get out of this poll is that owners of black cars are proportionately the most pro active in voting (there were only 13 SE's made allegedly) Owners of Norfolk custard are also very high up in the voting stakes and the Collapso red and blue owners are in the "can't be arsed category"

Entirely different.

With EU, everyone who was eligible to vote knew about the poll & were entitled to 1 vote. Those who cared one way or another voted. The result was that more people wanted out than in.

With this poll, many Elan owners are not active on here, have never visited here or maybe have just not been around for a while. There is no deadline, no way of ensuring it is 1 car per vote & no way o This is also a poll just for curiosity. It won't affect any of us which one shows as being the most popular.
This was just intended as a guide to finding out how popular each colour was, or is.
