They don't take modified cars though.

Does that include any breakdown recovery or assistance?

Car usage down , premium up . Footman James. Up £40 ... Awaiting a return call to discus how many Elans have been stolen or paid out this year. I can't think of many. Specialist insurance for specialist vehicles which most will have been garaged . I wonder how they justify my increase having been a model customer for many years and made no claims.

Hearing that FJ are hiking premiums is bad news..... my renewal is expected to arrive shortly
Still, hearing that there are still other good options is always good news. I originally went with FJ as they could offer everything I wanted.... but it also seems that I can get Agreed value, salvage retention etc elsewhere. (okay, so everyone offers agreed value, but not all would offer salvage as 'standard')... time to see what the market can offer.
As Clemo says, a bit disappointing when my car went nowhere in the last 12 months, and has been sat in a heated, alarmed secure garage at home......

Beware, you only know how good the insurer is when you sadly may need to make a claim
Don't be fooled by " I haven't used the car for a year so the premiums should be cheaper" sadly some of the classic car owners have seen this as an opportunity to make claims (Covid)

and hence why some premiums have increased.
Also your classic car insurance is not just based on us other M100 owners.
I work for a leading insurer and even my premium has increased
If youy know the insurer and trust them, then stay put because loyalty means quite a bit in both directions

Dave - if it's any consolation to you my insurance premium with FJ went up this year too, albeit only by £5.00 and with roughly the same conditions imposed on me in Sturgeonland as you in Drakefordshire. I obviously live in a more salubrious part of the world than Torquay though
For
both my M100's it's under £220 for 5000 miles and £22000 GVS plus all the add ons, VRS etc.....
Everything has gone up the last year.. Covid, Brexit etc... and as Lotusles says even his has gone up, despite working for a large insurance company. Nothing really ever comes down for long. It is all usually one way traffic unfortunately

Les/Mark,
I hear what you say, and know that it is just the way of the world....... it just annoys me that I haven't had an accident in my life (plenty of crashes - but they were on purpose

), and I pay about £300 a year for the other 2 (daily driver) cars combined. I live in an area where the biggest crime wave was 2 broken shop signs in a month, and don't go anywhere!!!
Still, they are a business, and I appreciate that they aggregate the losses and pass on the bill to everyone - I'll just see what it says when it lands on the doormat.

I know Dave. I haven't had an accident in over 40 years ( I got T boned in a Volvo tank and came off the better), never any penalty points on my licence in all that time, not even a parking fine or any Polis record (I was described at the local cop shop as "you're boring"

) but, unfortunately, we pay for everyone else's misadventures. Or, at least, that's what it feels like to me

Mmm....that's how insurance works!
I'm with FJ too with both Elans old and new on the same policy. It'll be due in August. So I'll see what happens as I've had no claims for either car since day one.

Wow, those prices seem like a steal compared to what we have to pay in insurance here. But MOT equivalent inspection and taxes are cheaper here, so i guess it evens out. Could you all just create an LEC insurance pool for yourselves and set the price at what you think is fair? Basically just a group buy?

So reduced very slightly from last year.
By the way, is it just me that gets really
cross when they slap on an arbitrary £20 “administration charge”. I never used to get that back in the days when I had my MG Midget in my early 20s (mind you, that was the Pleistocene era, and I paid £38 for the year fully comp, IIRC).
Rant over

For comparative purposes your renewal premium was £125.09 for 1 car. My renewal premium was £167.26 for 2 cars. Everything else is the same.
So, you'll just need to get another M100 Jonathan. The arrangement fee stays the same

Here's a reason why some premiums will have gone up
https://www.autoevolution.com/news/80-c ... 53138.htmlCoincidentally most insurers have just published their COR figures for 2020. COR is Claims Operating Ratio with some insurers reporting 107% that means that the insurer has spent 107p on claims for every 100p premium income. Even on a good year you would be lucky to see an insurer anything below 90%
So lets put that in context. You pay £150 premium and they might make £15. Out of that will be broker fees as well.
So take the claim above, that's a lot of £15's isn't it
Sadly your premium is not always linked to your history or your location. I live in a culdesac and i use my postcode for MIAFTR/CUE training, its surprising how many claims there are. So take for example the Liverpool arena fire, all of those vehicles will be recorded against the claimants home address not the location of the fire.

Well, Mark, I’ve been thinking about another classic car - but it won’t be another M100. I love the one I have, but I’m a bit of a tart when it comes to cars.
Currently on the shortlist (depending to some extent on whether I keep the Golf R) are a VR6 Corrado, Fulvia coupe, or maybe a GT6. Wonder what one of those would do to my FJ premium?

If you join their owners club ( which sadly the M100 doesn't have in the insurance world) you will get a discount. I managed to secure a good deal for Rochdales and I think there are less of those than M100's
