I think the majority of folk would agree with you Mark, on an M100 it just looks cheesy, but each to their own, I'm sure there will be

I am looking to purchase my first Elan M100 very shortly

I saw this forum and thought what a great idea for sharing knowledge and experience

I am going to have a look at this car tomorrow and would be grateful in anyone has already been to take a look and what they thought.

Hi Shaun and welcome to LEC.
I can't say i know of this car but maybe if we knew the previous registration number then it may ring a bell with some. I seem to remember a guy called tiago bell? having a bumped car in this colour ... will see if i can find a link.

I have e-mailed the owner to ask about the reg and if he has details of any previous owners.

I have checked the S2 database (which Clemo holds!) and it lists #270 as having the number plate of M1ELN - but that entry was last updated in 2005, and I dare say that number has now gone elsewhere..... and I have no idea what the original number would have been.

M307COT is listed as being on #208, so it isn't that one.

You are correct that M1 ELN was indeed on the car at one time.

The owner says reg when he bought it was M629 GRY and the original owner may have been a Lewis Collins.

Surprisingly when he took the M629 GRY plates off the M1 ELN plates were still underneath ?

Ask to see the documented cat C repair. What was done and who did it etc...

Coolant level looks very low and possibly pink OAT? (a definite no no) Dump valve?

The seats look familiar. I'm sure I've seen them before but no. plate is unfamiliar to me. Good MOT history

Clemo - Good(ish) guess. Tiago Bell = Taco Siebergh. I don't think it is the same car though?

Are you sure I bought a medina green S2 from Alan (ab2cv) no one ever mentioned it had been written off. The car isn't here at the moment but I think the ltd number is 48

Yup. Alan sold Ribena to a chap who posted on LEC as 'Phunk'. I don't think Phunk owned Ribena for very long before it was involved in a shunt of some short. It ended its days being broken for spares by DVB.

AFAIK the Medina M100 that Alan purchased a couple of years after he sold Ribena is still around.

It is still around, mostly around the Lake District, and east of Eden. Currently having cylinder head gasket fixed, and back next week hopefully .

Well I went to see the car L123 SPY

It is the first Elan I have ever looked at so my experience of them is virtually nil.

I must say it looks to be in very good order and stands well.

As the present owner says it was a Cat C write off and he bought it from the Insurance Company and had it repaired. The damage was to the near side wing and door, I couldn't see the repair although the gap between the bumper and the wing was slightly wider than the off side - this was where it forms the wheel arch. Sadly there are no photos or receipts for the repair.

It started first time from cold and ran smoothly

Nice stainless exhaust new brakes all round, wheels were unmarked, a few bits here and there ( roof seals mainly ) looked solid underneath at the jacking points - all in all a nice looking car, shame I didnt have the confidence to buy it.

If anyone is in the market for an Elan and has the knowledge and experience of them this one is well worth a look

The advert has now been removed from C and C, albeit the description is still there. Very odd.

It also seems odd that, although being professionally repaired, there were no details. I would be expecting a receipt as a minimum but also backed up by photos before and after from a professional outfit. Was the current owner forthcoming on where and when it was repaired?

A pity it didn't work out for you but the better weather on the horizon should flush out a few more for sale

Yes I had seen that - a bit strange

The guy seemed very honest and knowledgeable and has owned Elans for many years

I hope you are right about one coming along - hopefully from a LEC member

The car has been for sale for a while. In fact, I think the seller has/had 2 for sale, both imports. One of them might have been a Kia?
