Switch from cloth to leather

Postby Drcraigbaker » Mon 20.06.2022, 16:01

Probably a stupid question, but I'll ask it anyway. I've seen several Elans for sale recently that I've liked but I've been put off by ones with cloth seats (I know prob a stupid and fussy reason!). How difficult is it to change to leather and is it expensive? I'd have thought a decent car upholsterer could do it? That and new door cars which are easily available. Cheers Craig

Quite a few LECers have had their seats retrimmed in leather. Others have replaced their seats with ones from Honda S2000 / MX-5 or w.h.y.

Any half decent car seat uphosterer should be able to tackle it.

Thanks Muley. The two cars I've looked at recently looked pretty good (silver and grey) but I've had this weird hangup about the cloth seats, but would prefer to keep the replacements as close to the originals as possible. Think I might take the plunge soon and not let that be a factor as I'm sure a decent upholsterer could change them. Cheers Craig

Hi Craig

You're not alone ~ I have a hang up about the cloth seats. To be fair, they are probably more practical

You don't slide around as much with the cloth seats when you give it the beans :burnout:

But I prefer leather anyday

Black or magnolia leather was a factory option on the S2, so you’d maintain the originality if you went down that route.
