Looks really good quality Kathryn.

Any chance you could post some pics on how it is secured in place (other than the magnets).

I've been using this one for the last 10 years or so. Works well, but have not tested it in really strong winds.
Not had any luck in tracing where it came from or if they are still available.

That’s the showercape Alan Betts from Thailand had produced. WillB acted as UK agent for a while, but I got mine direct from Alan before Will got involved. It’s very good quality. The early versions (like mine) had fewer suckers.

I was merely suggesting to get shot of those magnets asap in case they damage your shiny paintwork. I have heard of someone else who left them in place and found his side panels were rubbed after a period of time.

Yeah, I’ll keep an eye on that. (Said that in my post too )

Wayne, that is a Will B one as far as I know, it’s like the one I’ve got (2nd hand from eBay) but I find it condensates which is why I wanted something a bit more heavy duty for winter. It’s ok in the wind as long as it is well suckered down, but I check it regularly (every time I walk down my drive!) and in very strong wind the suckers slide up the window!

I’m not using the new cover yet, I’ll post some more pics of it once I’ve adapted it.

Thanks Kathryn and John. Good to know about where it came from. I think mine has 8 of the suction cups on it. It also came with a few spares when I bought the car back. Not sure if they came with it or were bought separately by the last owner.

I normally use it just as a dust / sun cover as I'm too lazy to put up the roof. So the condensation side is not a problem for me. But good to know about the issues back in the UK.

Yep! it gets even hotter without the cover on or the roof up. Cover is in blue? Maybe it used to be black back in 2002. (the year I first bought the car)
Sitting on Black leather seats with shorts on in the summer here is not recommended.

I think this is the reason "why" the plastic bits were made. Plastic and rubber fall apart quickly over here.

Bought this one the other day on Ammazon...'SHLPDFM Soft Top Tailored Half Cover Black Soft Top Roof Hood Half Cover'..£65 quid. It says its compatible with new Mazda Mx5, which is slightly wider than its predecessors. Little bit big but really durable and works great.

Only wanted an emergency one for when i might be leaving the car in a car park/roadside for the night , so not worried if it got nicked. Just to stop a downpour coming in. Also wanted a dark coloured one so wouldn't stand out like the silver ones. Saw some on ebay for 25 quid but then saw the same one (well same photos anyway !) for only 14 quid so thought i would give it a go ! Wouldn't mind if i got a few uses out of it before some pesky kid nicked it !

Well I'll be honest - it's not a great fit

But for 13.99 I'm happy with it, I'm sure improvements can be made to the fittings !
I'm not too sure what the straps down the door are for - can only extend them to go under the car (or hang heavy bottles of water from).
You could pass the rear ones through the boot and fix them to something so they can't be pulled back through .

I wanted a black one so it wouldn't stand out if it was left in a dark road. It's actually reversible so it is silver/reflective on the other side.
Worth having to keep in the boot for an emergency and not care if it got nicked.

can you show us a close up picture of how it attaches to the car please ?

I May be in the market for a couple of them. but the back of my house is extremely windy, and all car covers i have used before didnt like the wind.

Not at my car currently but will take some photos mid-week.

The only pieces of velcro (i think?) are the straps around the mirrors, but it cannot be tight as you need to pull it back to cover the rear hood. I passed the two rear straps through the boot and then tied them to a piece of pipe so they can't be pulled back through. The two front straps i wrap around the windscreen wipers - i think they actually have velcro on them too ?

The two side straps are pretty useless, i don't know what you are supposed to do with them ?! They just hang down as theres nothing to tie them too, i guess you would need to attach one of them to a longer strap and then pass it under the car to tie to the other one.

If your place is particularly windy then they might not suit but i'll get some better pictures.
