ElanScan_beta_USB - new for 2024

It's easy to 'miss' the gems that appear on this forum.

There's recently been a lot of work updating ElanScan PLUS it's new protocol file to make it available to newer l/tops using the later versions of win10 and all versions of win11 - so I've bundled everything together that, I've found, works for me (using win11)

It's easy to struggle with not being able to find what we don't know we could to be looking for, and I hope this helps until a permanent 'sticky' might be made available (within the likes of Wiki for example) along with the other gems that so often get easily lost.

new EScan_beta + settings.zip

ps when you open up the downloaded file 'new EScan_beta + settings' you'll see that there's a new protocol file with instructions to download as well. There's also a typical 'advanced settings' found in a com port if you'd like to compare your com parameters.

Apologies if I'm missing something obvious, but how do you set the advanced com port detail? - I can't seem to find the option.

Edit: Ah, just realised I assume you find this in the Windows Device Manager, not in ES.

Yep you find your (own) com port in device manager when you've plugged into your l/top, then set it when you go into EScan...

Yes, I am doing a bit of Elan tinkering, however it's not at home at the moment, it's 200 miles away in my Dad's shed, because my current home doesn't have a garage. It's been like this for nearly 4 years, I'm trying to get the garage built this year... (if anyone's interested we can have a chat about the garage on a new thread, we won't hijack this one).

Erm...with respect madbilly your updates on the wiki page have confused me a bit

Your newer win10 + win11 link doesn't open anything (for me) and the older win10 link seems to be the original EScan version - which has been updated in 2024:-



You'll find the updated 2024 version as a sticky on the LEC forum page above. This ElanScan_beta_USB version supercedes everything else so I wonder if the wiki page needs more 'refreshing'?

I've just loaded it afresh on my older 22H2 version of win10 (to run Ken's wireless bluetooth adapter) and it works fine, so I know it's backward compatible.

(I'd recommend any new EScanners to use this updated version that complements the latest com port developments and if the leads are becoming hard to find or make-up I reckon Ken's adapter would be an ideal, more modern, development since it 'talks' engine data to android phones as well...)

Sorry Chrism, I didn't realize that I'd tried to update the WIki, please someone delete it.

I was just trying to search for updated information and find someone that could help, sorry. My computer is still running windows 7 so any problems encountered are due to my computer, which needs updating.

These days I am not very computer illiterate but have downloaded the beta updated version for USB instead of my missing serial cable but don't think I'm capable of making the cable.

Many years ago when Toby did his you tube video, I tried and failed to make a spare but I couldn't get it to work. I am not good with electronics or electrical problems.

Dapinky has mentioned about the blue tooth version that I think Geof made? Did these ever go into production are they re the USB cable version available to buy?

My Windows XP mini laptop is on it's last legs so anything that is newer would be appreciated. Bluetooth to an Android phone would be the ultimate upgrade for me.
