Fed car Rear Shocks

I have looked through quite a bit of threads to see what my options are to replace my rear shocks. I see Gaz,protech, Avo but it seems they dont work on the Fed Cars. I think the AVO will because they are coil overs. Any help would be appreciated.

FunElan and I are both running Gaz rear shocks (on FED cars). You can use the existing spring you have, or you can buy a new one from Gaz if you see a lot of rust on your existing springs. Talk to Mike Hopes over at SouthWestLotusCenter. I think Sales@swlcperformance.com will get you to him.

I thought they were made to order (so they are always "sold out") but I could be misremembering.
Were you able to talk to Mike? There are other places that retail the shocks too, it's just that SWLC is a known quantity for good service.

To clarify, as others have alluded to:-

First, GAZ, AVO & Protech are all suitable for the FED car as well as any other variant..... the ride height is adjustable on all of them. I had a bad experience with Protech (many years ago, and others have said they are fine now). AVO went bust and have been taken over by another company - I used to use them all the time, but have no experience of the product/service currently...... I run GAZ on one Elan, and AVO on the other - both are excellent, and very similarly priced.

Springs are unlikely to "need" to be replaced unless they are broken or severely corroded - they always respond well to cleaning up and repainting, then setting the ride height to suit any 'sag' that has occurred over the past 30 years (the spring rate will remain the same, even if the spring is 1/2" shorter)...... but if you want new ones, then they are available. I would advise against getting "uprated" springs as they are simply unnecessary on a road car and will make the ride a lot harsher. Standard rate are perfect for everyday use.

GAZ shocks are 'made to order', and whoever you chose to buy from, they will send them out direct from the factory anyway......

...... but Mike Hopes does try to keep a set in stock as often as he can - so once they are sold, he will re-order straight away, that way, he can keep the lead time down to better than any other supplier who doesn't have them on the shelf.

It is worth speaking to him as he can tell you the current lead times, and is used to dealing with US orders and the VAT/Shipping side of things.

Oh, and everywhere will have them posted at the same price anyway to within a couple of quid as they are made to order.

I use the Nitrons all around. Fully adjustable ride height as well as balance for track days.

Ah, yes - I failed to mention Nitrons due to the cost of them - but you get what you pay for and they are undoubtedly the best available for the Elan.
