Starter Motor not disengaging

Postby Monkeyzak » Thu 01.10.2026, 09:29

Hello

My old starter motor did not disengage when I took it for the mot and it burnt out. I just had a new wospi one fitted and all was fine until this morning. I've had to press the lotus into daily service as my daily is waiting for a dealer part. I started it up all fine. Drove 10 miles to the gym. Cars running perfectly. I got out the gym. Started it and it sounded like the starter hasn't disengaged again. I switched it on and off a few times and eventually it was fine and I drove to work. No issues.

It's a brand new starter so no idea what's causing this. Has anyone come across it? The only things I can even think is a damaged flywheel but not sure how it could be damaged or an electrical issue.

Im sorning it at the end of the month but plan to use it as often as possible.

And help or advice greatly appreciated. The garage don't have a clue and I'm not sure what else I can do. I don't want to burn out this motor.

Thanks

i woudl try replacing the relay with a new one. may be a situation where its not springing back.

alternatively. loose wire somewhere shorting it. but i would go for the relay first
